Electrify the Green Transition with Copper Copper is best known for its ability to generate, distribute, and store energy.     This is why it is commonly used in cables, generators, and substations, all the way to the light switch in your home.   However, copper has a range of other properties that make it useful in various contexts. It is antimicrobial, which is why it is sometimes used for handles in public spaces or in the Swedish one-krona coin.   Boliden produces exceptionally pure copper, making it suitable for use in superconductors. Exciting news from LME Week: Mikael Staffas Elected as Chairman of IZA   Boliden’s CEO, Mikael Staffas, has been appointed the new Chairperson of the International Zinc Association (IZA).   Zinc may be the world’s fourth most produced base metal, but it plays a crucial role in shaping a sustainable future. Under Mr. Staffas’s leadership, the IZA will focus on boosting demand for zinc in industries essential to modern life - ranging from health and infrastructure to energy, agriculture, and automotive sectors.   “I look forward to driving progress in all these areas, while also focusing on zinc’s inherent sustainability, increasing circularity, and reducing the carbon footprint,” said Mikael Staffas.   Boliden's zinc operations primarily take place at the Garpenberg and Tara mines, as well as in the Boliden Area. Boliden Reduces Climate Impact by 95% 🌍     We've created a cement alternative using slag from our metal production, which can cut climate impact by up to 95% for every bit of regular cement it replaces. Right now, we’re looking into building a large-scale demo plant at Rönnskär, which could handle at least 250,000 tons a year. "The developed Supplementary Material is one of the absolute most energy efficient technologies for GHG abatement and it is fully scalable to meet the requirements of the concrete business," explains Åke Roos, Program Manager at Boliden.
