Honeywell has developed an electronic mail system based on the DPS-6 family of minicomputers. The DPS-6 Electronic Mail Facility [3] runs under the GCOS 6 MOD 400 operating system. The usual mail functionality, such as multiple recipients, mailing lists, etc., are all supported. Some additional capabilities have been incorporated to handle Honeywellspecific constructs. Running within the Honeywell Distributed Systems Architecture (DSA)[4], multiple DPS-6's can be combined into a uniform electronic mail network.
The objective of this gateway is to allow DPS-6 Electronic Mail users and Multics Internet Mail users to exchange mail. This section presents the problem within the framework of the CCITT X. 400 Reference Model for Message Handling Systems [5]. This Reference Model will be used throughout the rest of this paper.
