A favorite at local farmers markets for its hot breakfast sandwiches with grass fed pork, Goochland’s Hog Haven Farm is opening a Richmond location at 238 S. Pine St. for retail sales of its pork products and sandwiches.
The red, steel clad barn space in Oregon Hill was formerly the home of pizza spot Peddler on Pine. Robert Staples, the owner of Hog Haven Farm, took over the space this summer and plans to open a retail shop by the end of spring next year.

“The former owners were close to retirement age and decided to retire,” Staples said. “We were looking around for prep space for our farmers market operation. We do hot food, and breakfast sandwiches made from pork from our farm out in Goochland. We have a kitchen we rent out there but thought that moving to Richmond would be better.”
The retail store will sell the pork products that Hog Haven is known for like ribs, bacon, pork belly, and sausage. Staples says, “It’s going to be like a breakfast spot and a place to sell the sandwiches from a brick and mortar, as well as sell the pork we produce and some other stuff we made in the past.”
Once Staples’ farmers market schedule quiets down, he’ll be fully in planning mode for his opening. He said, “Farmers markets are busy right now and we have no time [to work on the new space]. In the winter, it’ll slow down so we’ll see what we can do when we get a little time back.”
