The Office of the Vice President for Research (OVPR) is focused on advancing knowledge and serving the Commonwealth of Virginia, the nation, and the world through research, scholarship, creative arts, and innovation to enable discoveries that enrich and improve lives.
With targeted Grand Challenges, the University of Virginia is investing in our strategic research areas outlined in UVA's Strategic Plan. These five priority focus areas for research represent major societal challenges and opportunities and draw on UVA’s existing strengths.
Meet the Team
Vice President for Research
Lori McMahon, a neuroscientist, directed UAB’s Comprehensive Neuroscience Center for eight years and was dean of the UAB graduate school for six years. Since 2001, she has been the leader and principal investigator for a neuroscience lab that has received continuous funding from the National Institutes of Health.
