The Board convenes on the second Thursday of each month, and Board Members are asked to chair committees. They help recruit volunteers to work on the committee’s charge and submit periodic reports to the Board. Board elections take place annually, with members serving three-year terms. Individuals may serve up to nine consecutive years on the Board before taking a mandatory one-year hiatus.

Meet our Board of Directors

Ollin Montes (he/him) is a leader dedicated to fostering a safe, nurturing, and informative environment for the queer community. Trained as a community organizer by ISAIAH in 2018, Ollin has worked on issues ranging from immigrant rights and housing to environmental advocacy. As the organizer for the 100% campaign, he helped secure Minnesota’s clean energy standard in 2023. Since then, Ollin has transitioned into environmental conservation and restoration work, proudly embracing his role as a “Lorax in training.”

Ollin began volunteering at Quatrefoil Library in 2019 and has held several key roles, including Co-Chair of the Strategic Planning Committee, Chair of the Programming Committee, and was elected Board President in January 2024. He believes the library is a vital part of Minnesota’s queer ecosystem and is committed to expanding its reach and impact through collaboration and community engagement.

Rose Funk holds degrees in both Spanish and Nursing, which they utilize to provide equitable care to children and their families at Children’s Minnesota Hospital. A non-binary person who aspires to be a life-long learner, Rose brings a strong passion for helping others and uniting people in community. They have been a dedicated volunteer at Quatrefoil Library since 2021 and were elected to serve as Vice President in January 2024. In addition, they chair the Volunteer Committee, working to ensure that all volunteers feel welcomed, valued, and empowered in their roles. Their commitment to fostering a positive volunteer experience is instrumental in strengthening the library’s community.

John Brentnall joined the board of Quatrefoil Library in late 2021 and currently serves as Treasurer. John graduated from Grinnell College in 1993 with a B.A. in political science and is currently employed by the University of Minnesota’s Office of Human Resources as a Retirement Consultant. John served on the board of Philanthrofund Foundation (PFund) from 2002-2009. His board tenure included a two-year stint as President, four years as Treasurer, and one year as Governance Committee chair. John enjoys reading about history, politics, theology, and Iowa, with dollops of literature and poetry. His favorite LGBTQ book and movie is The Color Purple. Alice Walker is a prophetic voice for our time and beyond. (Photo to come.)

Nicole Olila is a queer/feminist librarian, curator, and collaborator with a global outlook and local focus. Holding an MLIS from Saint Catherine University and a member of Beta Phi Mu, Nicole is the Quatrefoil Library’s first library manager. Dedicated to promoting intellectual freedom and critical librarianship, they authored Reading the Quatrefoil Library as Self Censorship, a zine reflecting on the radical nature of the library’s origin story. Evan Allgood (they/he) is an aspiring researcher and archivist of transgender history currently studying library and information science at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. They were introduced to Quatrefoil back in 2019 by previous Q board member Greg Hewett, and fell in love with the space the moment they stepped through the door. They joined the board in the winter of 2021 with a particular focus on making Quatrefoil more accessible and representative (and so they could spend more time around good gay books). Evan can generally be found reading at a coffee shop or walking around one of the 10,000 Minnesotan lakes with their lovely partner and goofy dog.

Sandy Unger has served as a board member and Chair of the Scholarship Committee at Quatrefoil Library since 2023. With over 40 years of high-level volunteer experience, she brings expertise in governance, fiscal management, and strategic planning. Sandy has been involved in Domestic Violence Prevention work at local, national, and international levels. A passionate library advocate, she is dedicated to creating safe spaces for younger generations and supporting the library’s growth and outreach efforts.
