𝗔 𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗿𝗲𝗮𝗸𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗼𝗰𝗲𝗮𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱𝘄𝗶𝗱𝗲: 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗔𝘇𝗼𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮 𝗡𝗲𝘁𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 🌊   This year, the Azores made waves by announcing the largest Marine Protected Area network  in the North Atlantic, a monumental step toward safeguarding the ocean. Covering 30% of the archipelago’s surrounding waters, this MPA will ensure half of its 287,000 square kilometers are fully protected, banning fishing or resource extraction 🐟 🌍 The BBC News celebrated this groundbreaking achievement, naming it one of the major climate and nature breakthroughs of 2024. The Azores have solidified their global leadership in ocean conservation, paving the way for a truly sustainable blue economy. This success was also possible due to the Blue Azores Program, a collaboration between the Governo dos Açores, Oceano Azul Foundation, and Waitt Institute. The cohort visited key players based on their areas of interest: 💡 𝗜𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘃𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹𝘀 – Petratex - Confecções SA PIEP - Innovation in Polymer Engineering RDD Textiles 🔬 𝗛𝗲𝗮𝗹𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘄𝗲𝗹𝗹-𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴, 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗙𝗼𝗼𝗱 & 𝗳𝗲𝗲𝗱 – Allmicroalgae Flatlantic - Actividades Piscícolas, ECOMARE Universidade de Aveiro, Horta da Ria, SaliGreen, ALGAplus Production and Trading of Seaweed and Derived Products S.A.. These visits provided a unique chance to see real-world operations in action, share best practices, address industry challenges, and explore inspiring success stories 🚀 Beyond the technical knowledge and insights, there were many opportunities for networking, sparking potential collaborations, partnerships, and mentorships.
