♻️ Instituto Pedro Nunes organised two information sessions on Circular Strategies, focused on supporting companies to promote sustainability within their ecosystems. 💡The sessions were an opportunity for the participants to learn the objectives, applications and benefits of the tools provided by IPN regarding sustainability, namely the “Circular Strategies” workshop and the Life Cycle Assessment. 🚀 What are the key gaps and challenges holding back the growth of Extended Reality(XR) technologies in the healthcare sector? At VR Health Champions, we've pinpointed the primary obstacles that must be addressed: 1️⃣ Technological Integration and Validation Integrating XR tech with medical devices is difficult due to the bandwidth and data requirements for real-time 3D visualisation. Limited sensor access and headset limitations (e.g., lack of certification and surgical tools) hinder outcomes. Regulatory and safety validation are critical. Available XR display hardware doesn’t address the peculiarities of the human visual system, posing a safety risk. 2️⃣ Strategic Partnerships and Market Access Collaborations with med-tech enterprises are essential to pilot XR health technologies and drive market expansion. Access, reimbursement, and stakeholder acceptance require alignment with healthcare institutions and regulators. 3️⃣ Resource Availability and Scalability Limited access to independent hardware enablers to essential building blocks (mobile chipsets, optical manufacturing capabilities, among other things) hinders the emergence of healthcare-tailored XR display hardware. Expensive GPUs hamper the scalability of XR solutions. Expanding across diverse healthcare settings requires additional resources, infrastructure, and skilled personnel.
