  • Today we launch the NAVISON report – the first pan-European report to provide historical and future forecast underwater noise data for all European seas. NAVISON maps underwater noise levels in all European seas for the first time using a single methodology. This allows quantitative like-for-like comparisons of shipping contributions to ambient sound between regions, vessel categories, and years right across EU waters. NAVISON also uses forecast sound maps to predict the future impact of maritime technology and operational measures on the mitigation of underwater noise caused by shipping for 2023, 2040, and 2050. • Since 2007, EMSA has been operating CleanSeaNet – the near real time European satellite-based oil spill monitoring and vessel detection service. 🛰️🛳️ The service analyses satellite images to offer participating States assistance in pollution identification and tracking, monitoring, and identifying possible polluters. Through CleanSeaNet, we support a whole range of different participating authorities, including helping French authorities to protect the seas around La Réunion. #WorldSpaceWeek #satellites #maritime #pollution #WSW2024

  • We mark World Space Week with some stunning images from our Earth Observation services! 🛰️ Earth Observation is a key activity here at EMSA.   Last year alone we provided over 16 000 Earth Observation images to Member State administration and EU institutions, covering a sea surface area of over 1.5 billion km2. Through our CleanSeaNet service, we offer assistance to participating States to help in identifying and tracing oil pollution on the sea surface, monitoring accidental pollution during emergencies, and contributing to the identification of polluters.   And the Copernicus Maritime Surveillance Service, implemented by EMSA, provides high quality satellite images and value-added products which support the monitoring of human activity at sea.   Find out more about satellite-based services at EMSA: https://lnkd.in/d8G6w3pa   #earthobservation #satelliteimaging #worldspaceweek #WSW2024

This week the Adriatic Sea Search and Rescue Exercise (#SARex2024) took place, an important exercise aimed at improving regional maritime safety. Maritime authorities from Croatia, Italy and Slovenia – with support from EMSA and EFCA – worked together to test their collaborative capabilities and coordination across their respective Search and Rescue regions in the northern Adriatic Sea. Key focus areas of #SARex2024: 🔷 Emergency Operations: A simulated maritime accident in the Gulf of Trieste required rescue teams from Croatia, Italy, and Slovenia – coordinated by MRCCs and MRSCs in Rijeka, Pula, Rome, Trieste, Venice, and Koper – to locate a vessel in distress, assess pollution and implement a coordinated action plan. 🔷 Communication & Coordination: The drill tested communication and coordination between MRCCs in Croatia, Italy and Slovenia. In a simulated scenario, MRCC Koper received distress information, coordinating rescue efforts with the other participating MRCCs and MRSCs. Practical and tabletop exercises helped evaluate decision-making and resource deployment for real-time situations. 🔷 Environmental Preparedness: A simulated pollution monitoring drill helped to strengthen regional readiness for potential maritime environmental incidents. 🔷 CISE Testing: The exercise used the Common Information Sharing Environment (CISE) to exchange crucial data on risks like underwater critical maritime infrastructure damage and illegal maritime activities. The Adriatic Sea #SARex2024 concluded successfully, thanks to the dedication and coordinated efforts of all participating teams. Their collaboration has reinforced cross-border coordination and regional emergency preparedness across the respective Search and Rescue regions of Croatia, Italy and Slovenia in the northern Adriatic Sea with the support of EMSA, European Fisheries Control Agency - EFCA and Frontex. The exercise not only achieved its objectives but also highlighted areas for future improvement. A big thank you to everyone involved – your hard work will help to ensure continued progress in maritime safety. 🔗 More at: https://lnkd.in/geJ3D6PW #MaritimeSafety #EuropeanCoastGuardCooperation #CISE
