The film depicts the time partly in Spang Olsen's own drawings, partly in the form of archive film, old photos and city maps and compares it to Østerbro of today. Following an introduction are five sections: "Home in the street", "By bike and on rails", "Playgrounds and hiding places", "School roads and war paths" and "In the harbor and in the water".
