Guy makes his own home-built incandescent light-bulb based on the 1835 invention by James Bowman Lindsay. From 60 watts of the first ever light bulb to today's annual 1.4 Quadrillion watt-hour demands, Guy takes to the skies to do routine aerial checks of the 'National Grid's vast electrical pylons and power lines. Next up, Guy travels north to Orkney and investigates alternative power, a Tidal Turbine, energy storage with huge batteries, and hydrogen generation as a future fuel. Nuclear generation is next in Guy's sights and a visit to 'Hinckley Point C' to see its construction. Over time these nuclear stations generate nuclear waste, so a visit to 'Sellafield' is in order. Finally Guy looks at the future of energy generation and helps conduct an experiment in nuclear-fusion that promises to be cleaner and safer, but is it the answer to our increasing energy needs ?.
