For investigator Valerie Almond, it is clear that it must be the same perpetrator as the murdered student - the events are too similar and the two bloody crimes followed one another too closely. But who would kill an attractive young woman and then a bitter old lady? Was there a connection between the victims that no one knew about? The ambitious policewoman doggedly targets everyone. Gwen's fiancé Dave is at the top of the list as the main suspect, as he knew the student and would have a motive to kill Fiona. Gwen and the grieving Leslie are also questioned by Valerie about the night of the crime. An acquaintance of Gwen's directs the investigation to her boyfriend Stan, who is behaving suspiciously, but the two cases are not as easy to solve as expected. Meanwhile, Leslie and Dave become closer. The newly divorced doctor gets involved in an affair with the love of her best friend, even though she is not sure of his innocence. Only when Dave gives her a disk that Fiona gave him on the evening of the engagement party does she gradually discover the dark secret from the post-war period that burdened her grandmother and Gwen's father Chad over the decades - and which also had a lasting impact on her own life.
