Cara tries to let Rebecca know what has been happening early on but Rebecca is in denial and refuses to believe that Jason would do anything so horrible. Rebecca seeks counsel from the pastor of the church she attends and he advises her to ignore the situation in an attempt to keep a young black couple together and avoid scandal and the hands of a young black male. Rebecca decides to take the issue into her own hands and ask Jason about the abuse. He promises to never hurt Cara again, until he does. Once Rebecca realizes he wasn't genuine about his apology and would probably attack again, she takes matter into her own hands and kills him to prevent an abusive cycle from continuing to form.
