Maggie's sweetheart, Heine, is serving a term and she plans to get him out; he escapes and meets Maggie in the park as per arrangement. Meantime they espy the deacon on his way to visit the prison and compel him to change clothes with Heine. And so it is that some time later, the deacon has the opportunity to study conditions in prison at very close range.
