Interview with Nicole Valentina Zemoz
Former trainee at the EUAA
The EUAA, headquartered in Malta, employs hundreds of staff: from experienced professionals to young people and trainees. Thanks to the diverse nationalities and cultures represented by staff members, working at the Agency’s headquarters can be a deeply enriching experience. EUAA’s Participation in the Marathons

Staff from the EUAA and their family members recently laced up their running shoes and hit the ground running at the Strovolos Marathon in Cyprus and the Marathon in Malta!

TRAINING
Record level of training provided to EU+ countries in 2023
Last year, the Agency provided training to over 7 500 officials belonging to EU+ countries’ protection authorities, deployed EUAA personnel, and civil society actors. With training beneficiaries able to take part in multiple sessions, the participation rate reached a new record of over 13 700 participations, which represents a 6 % increase year-over-year.

Collaboration with the EMCDDA on a training module for reception officers
The EUAA is collaborating with the European Monitoring Centre for Drugs and Drug Addiction (EMCDDA) on the development of a training module on "Safe and healthy reception environments”, which will be available in 2025.  
 
The module aims to enable learners to respond to some of the main risks related to the safety and health of asylum applicants in reception, including to prevent the emergence or deterioration of health and mental health conditions and substance use among residents.

New training module for reception practitioners
The EUAA has recently launched a new training module on ‘Introduction to Reception’ which aims to provide reception officers without prior experience in this field with the knowledge on the reception process and the applicable provisions according to EU law, as well as the skills needed to perform basic tasks in a reception centre related to arrival, stay, and end of reception for an asylum applicant.

Training Reference Group Meeting
In line with the Agency’s mandate to promote convergence of asylum and reception practice across the EU, the EUAA will soon launch a Master’s Programme on Management in the field of Asylum and Reception. The Training Reference Group (TRG) is tasked with reviewing and providing inputs to the EUAA’s training modules. The EUAA continuously gathers feedback and inputs to refine and enhance training for asylum and reception professionals in Europe,  ensuring they are equipped with high-quality knowledge and skills.

2024 Training Plan
Check the EUAA's training catalogues, which includes the various categories of modules of the European Asylum Curriculum (EAC) marked by different colours and presented in chronological order to provide a clear overview of upcoming sessions throughout the year.  
A separate planner of tailor-made sessions has been also released. These sessions are short in duration and delve into specific aspects of asylum and reception.
