The Joy of Cooking Podcast

I like this podcast, but I wish their voices didn't rise at the end of the sentence, its annoying

The ceaseless uptalk of hosts actually spreads to their guests. Unlistenable. What hubris and what a pity they sought no training and no advice or feedback before starting a podcast .

Love that it feels like I’m listening to my own friends chat intensely about their love of food and recipes. Informative but not lecturing!

I came upon this podcast over the holidays and have been binging it. Such an informative, while friendly and unpretentious, show. We have the 70s edition of Joy of Cooking on the shelf, well worn and annotated though, honestly, seldom opened in recent years because of all the other cookbooks that have grabbed our attention. (Though, this is the pesto recipe I go back to each summer). Shortly after finding the podcast, I bought the 2019 edition, too. I won’t even attempt to read it cover to cover but I’ve been skipping around and it’s an excellent reference, successfully blending tradition with the new (our friend, the Aeropress, is even discussed!). We’re in the Northeast but the first recipe I made from the book was (Marion’s, I believe) Cincinnati Chili in memory of my dad, who grew up in Cinci and passed away a few months ago. I wish I had thought of trying to make this for him during his life but, at least, we can have some 5-way chili tonight in his honor. (Our family eats little red meat but this was too much of a sentimental classic recipe to pass up.) John and Megan, we look forward to exploring YOUR recipes and hints, especially finding new ways to use our CSA veggies, in the coming months.
