When Mangesh Hattikudur (Part-Time Genius, Humans Growing Stuff) set out to do a big, sweeping show on astrology, he didn’t realize the first interview would change the course of his life. But as he tries to put his world back together, he realizes the incredible ways astrology presents itself in modern society: from NASA employees who keep their belief in astrology in the closet, to world leaders who’ve used astrologers to guide foreign policy, to moneyball statisticians who use astrology more than statistics to build baseball teams, to a little shop in India where your fortune was written for you centuries ago, and is waiting for you to come claim it. Over the course of 8 episodes, Mangesh tries to decipher why we keep looking to the stars for answers, and what happens when you don’t believe in astrology, but astrology keeps happening to you.

Whoa- this show is overflowing with sweetness, curiosity, and warmth. I learned a lot, and took great pleasure in listening. I want Mangesh to be my neighbor!
Let’s explore

This is what I wish there was more of in this world. The attitude of “I’m not into this, but I’m willing to explore.” In his exploration, it doesn’t matter if he gets an astrologer-he gets so much. Let’s all explore at stuff we’re not into- and get something out of it.
This podcast is for everyone.

I just finished this podcast, and I feel the same way I feel upon finishing a long, beloved book: I'm going to miss this. What a gorgeous celebration of humanity. Each episode is a multifaceted installment of adventure, confusion, incapacitating loss, the surprise of hope from unexpected places, the disappointment of hope misplaced, and all the fears, laughs, losses, awkwardness, trepidations, rock bottoms, elations, dreams, wishes, and heartbreaking joys that all get rolled together in the experience of this life. Plus, the music is dope. This story beautifully scratches an itch that human beings have for the spiritual, and weaves together an audible communion between listener and creators in a way that transcends our own individual understandings of what it means to be human. Did I mention the soundtrack? Thank you to Mangesh Hattikudur for being vulnerable enough to record everything he went through, and to his team and guests for making the final product possible.
Making sense of our place in the cosmos

It’s more than a podcast about astrology, but about our efforts to understand why we’re here and what we’re meant to do. Losing a parent can make you question both those things and it’s amazing that Mangesh opens up to let us experience his grief. That perspective makes the podcast feel more essential and more relatable. Beautifully told and very much worth a listen and re-listen.
