The poem ‘Hill Walk’
Dec 16
I love this podcast SO much & Padraig’s gentle, insightful way of opening a poem to an array of ways to see & feel the poet’s meaning. There’s no single way to interpret a poem & Padraig is wonderful at reminding us of this. In the intro to today’s poem — ‘Hill Walk’ — Padraig suggests that ‘change often happens in surprising ways, … in a way that you’re not prepared for at all, sometimes beautifully, sometimes brutally, change just comes.’ I love the way a 15-minute listen to a poem with a light sprinkle of commentary by Padraig can shift my perspective & my approach to the day ahead. Today I’m reminded that rather than seeking out a ‘how to’ list of ways to change myself, I might instead watch for the surprising ways ‘change just comes.’ I’ve been listening to Poetry Unbound from day one. This is my first time remembering to post a review. I highly recommend giving yourself the gift of Poetry Unbound!! 💜
