"Does a woman's menstrual cycle affect how her hair responds to color or lightener?"

Throughout my years behind the chair and as a teacher, I've often been faced with questions that led me down a "rabbit hole" on a journey akin to "Mr. Toad's Wild Ride"—a ride I didn't always want to join. I believe many of these experiences stem from two significant obstacles in our profession. First, there's a lack of solid foundational education. Second, we see the swift spread of opinions, assumptions, and unfounded information. It seems we love stories and are ready to believe anyone who speaks with conviction. I'm sure you've encountered these sweeping statements that generalize one individual scenario to everyone, particularly when it involves chemical services like hair color, perming, and so on. I think many of us found that our education emphasized the "how-to" more than the "why" behind chemical services. The science often got glossed over, leaving questions unanswered or met with opinions rather than facts. Recently, an intriguing topic resurfaced on social media, sparking quite a "firestorm." Surprisingly, many female hairdressers aren't well-versed in this particular subject. So, with your permission, I'd like to shed some light on it. I believe that understanding this topic can help you address those unexpected results that sometimes leave us puzzled. The question was: "Does a woman's menstrual cycle affect how her hair responds to color or lightener?" These are food-based products that can sometimes be as effective as pharmaceuticals. In this episode, we'll be sitting down with Roger Evans to explore some incredible products that can help combat "age-dependent oxidative stress" and other health concerns, promoting and maintaining optimum well-being. "Things that keep me up at night"

Things That Keep Me Up at Night   Hello, friends, and welcome to this episode of Guru in Your Ear! Last night, as I was winding down, an intriguing thought struck me: the contradictions surrounding the concept of "levels" in our industry. Have you ever observed a group of salon professionals assessing the same head of hair? Despite experiencing it firsthand, there’s always more than one opinion about what the level is. Is it a level 5?   Is it a level 6? In this episode, I want to delve into the background of the level system—its genesis and evolution. We need to explore how we handled hair color before the level system existed and why understanding these founding principles is essential for mastering hair color today. I can only do this by sharing my personal journey with you. I hope you'll find it interesting and meaningful—a guide to helping you master one of the most unspoken challenges in our profession today. So, sit back, push play... and 25 minutes later, you might discover insights that could change your life as a hair colorist. Enjoy the listen!
