Advice From Women Who Have Left A Violent Partner

We can’t ignore the number of domestic violence related crimes carried out across Australia this year. For a lot of women, domestic violence has left them with nothing; no home, no financial stability, and unfortunately in a growing number of cases, no life.  Leaving a domestic violence situation can be terrifying, overwhelming and often there are so many moving parts, it can be hard to know where to start.  In today’s episode we’ve collated a list of practical things you need to remember before what can be one of the most dangerous, important moments of your life.  If you or anyone you know needs to speak with an expert, please contact 1800 RESPECT (1800 737 732) — the National Sexual Assault, Domestic and Family Violence Counselling Service. If you are in immediate danger, call 000. Mamamia is a charity partner of RizeUp Australia, a Queensland-based organisation that helps women and families move on after the devastation of domestic violence. EXTRA: The Blake Lively Smear Campaign Unpacked

“We can bury anyone: Inside a Hollywood smear machine”. That’s the New York Times headline that meant we had to bring you this episode of Mamamia Out Loud today.  Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni made headlines just a few months ago for their roles in one of the year’s most-watched films, It Ends With Us. But what was happening off-screen turned out to be an even bigger story. In this special episode, Mia Freedman, Jessie Stephens and Holly Wainwright unpack the facts behind Blake's legal complaint against her co-star and director Justin, which alleges sexual harassment and an orchestrated campaign to destroy her reputation. Plus, what this lawsuit means for Hollywood power dynamics, celebrity reputations, and the way narratives and the manipulation of public perception are shaped in the digital age. Three Women Share How They Gave Up Drinking For Good

End of year celebrations come with… lots. Lots of eating, lots of socialising, and lots of chances to drink alcohol. For a lot of us, social drinks to tie a ribbon around the end of the year is par for the course. But for some people end of year drinks can be a nightmare, a chance to slip into risk drinking behaviours.  Today we meet three women who actually gave up drinking, all in very different ways and learn what advice they have to share as we charge ahead through the festive period.  If you’re facing a sober Christmas and think you’ll be struggling, know you’re not alone. You can always reach out for help amongst your own community or speak with an expert.
