Industry Leading Security Features
Messages are stored on Proton Mail servers using end-to-end encryption at all times and are transmitted securely between Proton servers and user devices. This largely eliminates the risk of message interception.

Zero Access to Your Email Content
Proton Mail's zero access architecture means that your data is encrypted in a way that makes it inaccessible to us. Data is encrypted on the client side using an encryption key that Proton does not have access to. This means we don't have the technical ability to decrypt your messages.

Open-Source Cryptography
Proton Mail's open-source software has been thoroughly vetted by security experts from around the world to ensure the highest levels of protection. Proton Mail only uses secure implementations of AES, RSA, along with OpenPGP, while all of the cryptographic libraries used are open source. By using open-source libraries, Proton Mail can guarantee that the encryption algorithms used do not have clandestinely built-in back doors.

Proton Mail in the press:

“Proton Mail is an email system which uses end-to-end encryption, making it impossible for outside parties to monitor.” Forbes

“A new email service being developed by a group from MIT that met at CERN promises to bring secure, encrypted email to the masses and keep sensitive information away from prying eyes.” Huffington Post

I have been a paid subscriber for several years and have felt secure with it. I just increased my subscription to the DUO option (I wanted the Business, but the option disappeared when it came time to order.) I don't like that the VPN is an additional cost on top of the $170/yr. I am in the USA and it connects me to other countries, which creates more problems than it solves, making it useless for me. I think the ability to switch servers should be included, if at all possible.

I pay for protonmail and use it for a lot of addresses. The android app is very buggy. It randomly freezes when composing emails. I know it's about to freeze when I'm typing an address and it fails to auto complete, and deletes the address I manually type in when the field loses focus. Then it won't close the compose view so I have to restart the app to use it. Also frequently find sent emails in my drafts folder, turns out they were never delivered. Out of space to describe other issues.

We're sorry to hear about your experience, Justin! Please report this to us via the in-app 'Report a problem' option so we can ask you for some additional information (on your device etc.). In the meantime, try clearing the app data from your Android settings (which will log you out) to see if this will make any difference.

- Missing pretty much all the features that make Proton Mail great, and it seems like it is basically not being developed anymore. - When I read an email on desktop, the notification for that email does not disappear from my phone. - The UI is clunky and inconsistent - Opening an email through notification has a roughly 50% chance to crash the app - The loading time for opening an email, or doing any other action is also quite poor - Looking at the Github, development slowed to a crawl.

We're sorry to hear that! Please report this to us via the in-app 'Report a problem' feature, so we can look into this further. In the meantime, try clearing the app data from your Android settings (which will log you out) or uninstalling and reinstalling the app, to see if it helps.

What's new

- Users can now log into 2 free accounts at the same time
- Fixed an issue where deleting a conversation would make it reappear briefly in the Mailbox
- Fixed an issue where system folders would appear as duplicates
- Minor updates to the Composer screen UI
- Minor other fixes and improvements
