Highlight from last week's EuroSciPy conference in Szczecin, Poland! I had the privilege of presenting the tutorial on "Global Forecasting and Foundation Models in sktime" as a speaker for sktime. It was also a pleasure to meet Felipe Angelim and my Google Summer of Code mentors, Franz Király and Benedikt Heidrich.

EuroSciPy conference🚀 Last week, a delegation from our TransferLab had the pleasure of attending the EuroSciPy conference in Szczecin, Poland—a great opportunity to connect with the vibrant Scientific Python and AI community in Europe. 🎙️ Janos Gabler delivered two insightful talks: one on the role of Python typing in open-source software packages and another on “optimagic,” an open-source tool for numerical optimization (https://lnkd.in/eBqAd3GS) 🧠 Jan Teusen (Bölts) presented an introduction to “Simulation-Based Inference”, the open-source software package „sbi“ and its brand new release. He also hosted a successful sprint to welcome new contributors to the sbi project. (https://lnkd.in/eTNiGr5s) 🌅 Outside of the conference, our team enjoyed a beautiful boat tour around the Szczecin Lagoon, soaking in the scenery and the rich history of the area. Overall, it was a productive and enjoyable experience, filled with great discussions, learning, and a bit of adventure. We are excited to bring these insights back to our work and continue contributing to the open-source community. #EuroSciPy2024 #OpenSource #Python #AI #SimulationBasedInference

Last week, I had the privilege of being a tutorial speaker at EuroSciPy in Poland, alongside sktime's founder and developer Franz Király, and Armaghan Shakir. We explored how developers can create 2nd-party libraries with sktime, making it easier to focus on core model logic and reach a wider audience. We also discussed how sktime's excellent code design can handle complex hierarchical and global forecasting strategies. On a personal note, this event was a meaningful return to Europe, where I completed my master’s in France years ago. It is always good to be exposed to awesome professionals and people with diverse backgrounds. Franz, Armaghan and Benedikt Heidrich are among the brilliant individuals I had the pleasure of engaging with - Benedikt also presented in EuroScipy the challenges involved in interfacing foundational models for timeseries. I’d like to extend my gratitude to Mercado Libre, Paula Youn, and Alejandro Quadrini for their support.

Last week, I had the opportunity to attend EuroSciPy 2024 in Szczecin, Poland. It was a remarkable experience, both professionally and personally. I received invaluable feedback on my project, Gatherer: Insight Revelation from Diplomatic Archives, and had the privilege of moderating a session, which was a rewarding challenge. The conference was a hub of innovation, with brilliant minds showcasing their work on cutting-edge projects. The power of community was on full display through sprints, lightning talks, tutorials, and social events—an ingenious way to foster collaboration and learning. I'm excited to start exploring ways to implement the insights I gained into my own work. A huge thank you to the organizers and participants for making this conference such a rewarding experience. And for anyone considering a visit to Szczecin, I wholeheartedly recommend it. The city greets you with the delightful aroma of chocolate the moment you step off the train! P.S. If you're wondering how you can tap into the knowledge from the conference, the organizers will be making the video recordings available soon. #EuroSciPy #DataScience #research

I just had an incredible 5-day experience at EuroSciPy in 🇵🇱 Szczecin, Poland 🇵🇱 from August 26th to 30th. It felt like a dream 🌟 to learn directly from some of the best minds 🧠 in the field, including the core maintainers of key open-source libraries like NumPy, Matplotlib, scikit-learn, skrub, sktime, and more. The days were packed, with formal sessions from 9 AM to 5 PM 📊, followed by informal gatherings in the garden 🌳 until 9 or 10 PM, filled with fun 🎉 and deep discussions. Spending 12 hours a day with these brilliant people 💡 has definitely left a lasting impact on me 😊. The first two days were dedicated to tutorials 📚, but "tutorials" doesn't quite capture it—they were more like in-depth guides on how to use new libraries, straight from the maintainers themselves. It gave me a much deeper understanding of what's happening under the hood 🔧. The next two days were a mix of guidance, feature talks 💬, poster sessions, and explorations of even more new libraries 🔍. The highlight for me was the final day, a sprint day 🏃♂️, where I got the chance to contribute to the scikit-learn project 💻. Watching the maintainers dive deep into bug resolution, peeling back layers to find the solution, was absolutely fascinating 🧩. For those interested, EuroSciPy will be uploading some of the content to YouTube 📺. You can find the list of topics covered here: https://lnkd.in/g52jkhb7. And a quick update: PyData Paris 🇫🇷 is coming up from September 25th to 27th, with the final day also being a sprint 🏁. Definitely worth checking out! 🙌 A huge thank you to everyone who made this event unforgettable! 🙏✨ EuroSciPy , PyData Paris , Python

I've had an amazing week at EuroSciPy 2024 in Szczecin! Gave my first ever conference talk, met lots of lovely people, and put real faces to the GitHub usernames of maintainers from projects like NumPy, Scipy, scikit-learn, and many more across the Scientific Python ecosystem. I really enjoyed sharing my work on the array API standard in SciPy, and look forward to sharing the recording once it is released! Thanks to all of the conference organisers, volunteers, and Christ Church, Oxford for making this trip possible! Next stop: Cambridge, MA for the NumFOCUS Project Summit 2024 ✈️ https://lnkd.in/dX7h5-Dq
