A vast majority of important places in OSM have wikidata tag, but does not have all possible localizations of the location names. Many companies that work with OSM data, like Klokane tech and Mapbox, use Wikidata for those international labels for any place without localized name. Please make wiki map use that data as well.

Strong Support on behalf of Wikimedia Languages of Russia Community. Using Wikidata labels will give us (and other regional or indigenous language communities worldwide) a map of the world in our languages for the first time ever. https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Wikimedia_Indigenous_Languages
This would be a big user-facing change which we would not deploy since there isn't a product manager for maps.
If we had one on a permanent basis or through a one-time effort like the community wishlist it could be re-opened, but as-is we're declining it.
(reopen per discussion in wikitech-l regarding the meaning of declined in phabricator)
Seems like this task is valid and there is a demand for it from different users in wishlist ( https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Community_Wishlist_Survey_2019/Miscellaneous )

And I really like that as OSM user, but I wonder: has the OSM community discussed whether it's better to keep such things in Wikidata or whether they'd like to import missing alternative names from Wikidata? I vaguely recall that some discussion happened but I doubt there ever was an actual concrete proposal of an import.
They are probably not interested in that sort of imports. Lately I noticed that particular changeset got reverted by their Data Working Group because changeset added name variants that originated from Wikipedia that has incompatible license (and also due to suspicion on actual source and copyright status of name variants as a data set). I've also encountered opposition to adding name variants on grounds of avoiding transliteration (which I find poorly justified, but nonetheless there is such stance), and even on grounds of tagging for the renderer. So I think it'd be much appreciated if map i18n could rely on Wikidata as much as possible.

FWIW, this is the work Maptiler/OpenMapTiles is doing for using Wikidata labels in the maps
