Deadpool & Wolverine Director Shawn Levy Reveals He's the Godfather of Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively's Son Olin

Ryan Reynolds and Shawn Levy are so close, they're basically family.

When speaking to Variety on Monday, Aug. 5, the Deadpool & Wolverine director, 55, revealed that he's the godfather to Reynolds, 47, and his actress wife Blake Lively's son Olin. Levy did not share whether he is also the godfather of the couple's other three kids.

After the new Marvel film's release in July, fans spotted the surprise cameos from Lively, 36, and the couple's four kids: daughters James, 9, Inez, 7, and Betty, 4, plus baby son Olin.

And "as the proud godfather of Olin," Levy, 55, told Variety, "that might be my favorite voice cameo."

Asked why it was important to Reynolds that his wife and kids be featured in the film, Levy said, "It just honestly was that they were available and always nearby."

He continued, "A lot of times, we would call people into our edit room and have them record something. Little by little, all of the Reynoldses started being a part of the movie, including their youngest."

Back in April, Levy told PEOPLE, “Ryan and I have become extremely close friends.”

How much time does the dynamic duo spend together? “A lot,” said Levy at CinemaCon on April 11. “More than I've spent with any male friend since literally high school.”

The two Canadian filmmakers live in New York City “half a block from each other," he said, "so it's all very intertwined — which makes it very convenient for two guys who work as hard as we do.”

Reynolds has collaborated as both star and producer with Levy on 2021’s Free Guy, 2022’s The Adam Project and now Deadpool & Wolverine, reprising his role as the irreverent Marvel Comics character.
