Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez Put on United Front, Hold Hands at His Daughter Violet's Graduation

Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez supported his daughter Violet at her graduation ceremony on Thursday, May 30, amid talk of tension in their relationship.

Also in attendance at the Los Angeles school's commencement: Affleck's ex-wife and Violet's mom, Jennifer Garner, 51, the exes' other two children, Seraphina, 15, and Samuel, 12, as well as Max and Emme, the 16-year-old twins Lopez shares with ex-husband Marc Anthony.

Shortly after the event, Lopez was spotted happily chatting with her kids. “She seemed upbeat and engaged,” said an onlooker.

Photos published by Daily Mail show Lopez and Affleck holding hands at one point during the event.

Earlier that day, Affleck, 51, and Lopez, 54 — whose marriage “is not in the best place at the moment,” a source connected to Lopez previously told PEOPLE — reunited at a graduation celebration.

Prior to that, they had not been photographed together since May 19, when they showed up in Santa Monica for another school event.

The couple, who eloped in Las Vegas in 2022, 20 years after they first dated and broke up, have been living apart recently, according to sources. 

Lopez remains in the $60 million Beverly Hills mansion they bought last year, while Affleck stays at a rental home a few miles away.

Affleck has been busy filming The Accountant 2 in the Los Angeles area, while Lopez has been promoting her new hit Netflix movie Atlas while also rehearsing for her upcoming This Is Me…Live tour, which kicks off June 26 in Orlando and runs through August.

“She seems okay. She’s very focused on work,” a source recently told PEOPLE about Lopez.
