A global UNDP practice working to transform food and agricultural commodity sectors.

Sobre nosotros

Food and Agricultural Commodity Systems (FACS) are fundamental to the sustainable development of the 170 countries UNDP supports. FACS are often the largest contributor to their economies; food and nutrition is fundamental for citizen health; and FACS have a key role to play in achieving the SDGs. With the current multiple crises UNDP is supporting governments and other national actors to transition their FACS from recovery to resilience for them to become equitable, inclusive and environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable systems.

  • 🚨The call for sustainable food systems has never been more urgent.  We must prioritise sustainability from farm to table; produce agricultural commodities without deforestation or habitat conversion; and revitalise soils and degraded areas.     FOLUR’s power and potential lies in its practical agribusiness approach: by engaging both the private and public sectors in discussions and knowledge exchanges, transformations in the agricultural landscape are underway.     Learn more in the new annual report:  https://lnkd.in/ewkrz2vi#FOLURImpact

  • 🌏 A whole-of-government approach towards resilient Food Systems    Food systems cut across all aspects of our economy and society, this is why we need collaborative efforts to drive change in a systemic way.    Transforming food systems is key to building resilience, equity, and sustainability. But it's not just about changing a part—it's about a holistic shift engaging the entire government and society.    To achieve significant change “we need to tackle a broader range of challenges than those which fall into the mandate and responsibilities of Ministries of Agriculture. Food is a development issue and that means involving a wide range of Ministries and government agencies in the transformational effort” writes Andrew Bovarnick, UNDP Food & Agricultural Commodity Systems Global Head, in his latest blog.    From agricultural subsidies and taxes, to land use planning and health and nutrition, take a look at 10 policy areas to tackle in a coordinated way to make a dent in food systems transformation.    ➡️ Read the blog and join the journey towards food systems resilience: https://lnkd.in/d8Wr8E_7

  • 🌱 Food systems involve complex challenges, which call for a systemic, multi-level and #multistakeholder approach for addressing issues across economic, social and environmental dimensions—the so-called food systems approach.    To adopt this joint approach, UN Environment Programme, FAO, and UNDP have joined forces to create a best practices guide. Based on five building blocks for effective collaboration among multiple stakeholders in the transformation of food systems, this guide employs these frameworks to showcase the key components of the process and highlight the interdependence of the necessary steps for achieving success.    Join the journey of rethinking our food systems for a better future. • Land Restoration: The key to securing biodiversity, climate action and livelihoods Land degradation affects the well-being of more than 3 billion people and accounts for over 10% of global GDP losses due to declining biodiversity and ecosystem services. Despite international commitments, restoration efforts remain insufficient to achieve global targets. So, what’s working in the restoration of agrifood landscapes? This new Evidensia briefing delves into the key challenges and barriers to restoration within commodity production landscapes. Through three case studies from Latin America, Africa and Asia, we explore innovative approaches that are overcoming these obstacles, as well as recommendations for bridging the finance gap, increasing private sector involvement, and scaling up restoration efforts through multi-stakeholder collaboration and landscape-level approaches. 👉 Explore the full paper here: https://t.ly/LML7f Global Environment Facility - The World Bank - UNDP

  • 🔍 How can we navigate through the waters of Monitoring, Learning, and Evaluation (MLE) to drive systemic change? MLE encompasses adaptable frameworks with processes, best practices, and tools that are strategically tailored for the uniqueness of organizations and sector-specific initiatives. Adopting this system is a journey that requires a deep commitment to learning and adaptation. By adopting a systems-oriented approach, MLE practitioners can effectively navigate the complexities of systems change initiatives. UNDP, in collaboration with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and the Centre for Public Impact (CPI), is advancing innovative monitoring, learning, and evaluation (MLE) approaches for systems change in development. Through the Systems MLE project, we’ve learned from practitioners, case studies, and experiments to help navigate the complexities of food and agriculture systems transformation. This new article shares lessons from our journey to create an innovative guidance—embracing new perspectives, fostering collaboration and adaptability, rethinking existing values, and shaping new ones. • 🌊 How can we safeguard our oceans? The ocean is a powerhouse for biodiversity, containing thousands of species, with many more remaining to be discovered. Yet it faces mounting threats. It is vital to the health of our planet and to the well-being of billions of people. “The ocean is the foundation of life itself. But we are destroying the health of our ocean (…) Changing the tide means changing mindsets —and changing behaviour. It requires greater focus on sustainable fisheries, aquaculture…” stated United Nations Secretary António Guterres at UN Ocean Conference. Having a systemic perspective to blue food is key. This implies an ecosystemic lens and bringing sea food to those who need it the most, meaning, sustainable and inclusive fisheries. "In Harmony with Nature's Rhythm" spotlights groundbreaking conservation projects, from community-driven aquaculture in the Caribbean to local conservation efforts in Madagascar and Malaysia.
