Northern Europe is a cultural and geographical region in Europe with no clear boundaries, but most definitions include areas north of the Baltic Sea, including the Scandinavian states and adjacent territories (countries and regions). It is a vast and at the same time relatively sparsely populated region compared to other regions of Europe. Northern Europe may include some or all of the following areas: the British Isles, Scandinavia, the Jutland Peninsula, the Baltic States, and numerous islands away from the mainland of Northern Europe and the main European continent.
