About us
The Lines Company is proud to keep over 18,500 customers connected to electricity throughout the King Country, Ruapehu and Central Plateau. While most of our customers are residential connections, we also supply electricity to major industrial businesses like the iron-sands mine at Taharoa and New Zealand’s largest lime quarry at Oparure. Our head office is in Te Kūiti and we have operational depots in Taumarunui, Tūrangi and Ohakune. We have over 160 staff working across our region, with the majority in the field to maintain our lines.

The glad rags were on, the shoes were polished, and the conversations were flowing as Alumni and Friends of The University of Waikato gathered last week to celebrate our institution’s 60th anniversary and honour our 2024 Distinguished Alumni. A fabulous evening to acknowledge the dedication, work, and commitment of Bella Takiari-Brame, Stephen Knightly and Rukumoana Schaafhausen . What a great way to end a week…and begin a new one! 🎉 Accolades keep coming for one of our initiatives to deploy solar energy on local King Country marae. On Friday night, alongside Te Nehenehenui, TLC won Best Community Energy Project at the Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand (SEANZ) Awards. It’s the second time this project has been nationally recognised, having won the Community Initiative of the Year at the New Zealand Energy Excellence Awards in 2023. Our chief executive, Mike Fox, said he was delighted to win another award. But he and the team are more proud of making a positive difference to the King Country community. He believes there are more benefits from this project to come. Kaahu Tee Upgrade Project fully operational! 🎉 📢 We’re thrilled to announce the successful completion of the Kaahu Tee upgrade project! This enhancement is set to boost service reliability for all our valued customers. The upgrade project includes the installation of a new ring main unit, local service transformer and an additional voltage regulator to balance phases on the existing supply. These enhancements reduces load per phase and improves reliability by making it easier to switch power sources during outages and/or do necessary repair work. ⚡ The team also upgraded the SCADA system to optimise data collection, monitoring and control which further improves outage restoration capabilities. A feeder split on the 11kV line, resulting in two new feeders - Tirohanga and Kaahu Feeder, will also mean a more reliable power supply. Our dedicated team persevered through evolving challenges, showcasing their resilience and problem-solving skills. Their hard work and commitment will keep you connected. 👇 #keepingyouconnected #thelinescompany #kaahu

#Keepingyouconnected is something we take very seriously here at The Lines Company! ⚡ Big shout out to our lines crew for braving the cold 🥶 of the Tūroa ski field ⛷. It was apparent that a deteriorating HV cable termination point wouldn’t last the winter. Supported by ski field operator Pure Tūroa and a freak break in the weather, several of our TLC team, who have experience working on our lines on the mountain, faced icy temperatures ❄ to successfully replace the termination; ensuring that skiing enthusiasts could continue shredding the slopes. #Tūroa #skiing #puretūroa
