One year ago today, Kiwis voted for change, and to get New Zealand back on track. Inflation is down. Interest rates are down. We delivered tax relief for hardworking Kiwis. Families earning up to $180,000 with childcare costs can now get up to 25% of their weekly childcare fees through FamilyBoost. Fast-track for significant projects is on the way. There are more cops out on the beat keeping Kiwis safe. We’re cracking down on gangs and serious offenders. We’re delivering 26 new cancer drugs and 28 other new medicines. We banned cellphones in all schools and got our kids learning an hour each of reading, writing and maths every day. That’s just a handful of things we’ve achieved so far, and there’s still more work to do. We have a clear plan that is focused on three key promises we made to New Zealanders – to rebuild the economy, restore law and order, and deliver better public services.

This week we have had some positive news for hardworking Kiwis, especially for families and businesses - with the drop in the Official Cash Rate to 4.75%. While there’s still work to be done, our deliberate plan to ease the financial burden on New Zealanders and rebuild the economy is making a difference.

The Government is supercharging our economy and getting New Zealand moving again by including 149 projects with significant regional or national benefits in the Fast-track Approvals Bill. For too long, red tape has delayed critical infrastructure and housing projects. Currently, we spend $1.3 billion annually just on infrastructure consents—an unsustainable burden on growth for our country. Fast-track is not just about speeding up processes; it’s about creating high-paying jobs and delivering up to 55,000 new homes to address our housing crisis. It also supports our climate goals by streamlining approvals for renewable energy projects, crucial for our future energy security. With expert panels ensuring environmental protections, Fast-track balances development with ecological stewardship. This initiative is a commitment to a prosperous, sustainable future for all New Zealanders. This legislation strikes the right balance between progress and protection so that we can grow and care for the environment at the same time. By cutting red tape, we’re opening doors to New Zealand’s future prosperity.
