When people ask why should Central Government invest in Northland? The Question should be why would you not want to invest in Northland? Northland has a large amounts of under-developed land, stunning scenery, native forests, rich in history, beautiful beaches that you can get lost in, and productive soils that you can grow virtually anything. Northland is also next to the largest concentrated population base for the country (Auckland). Northland hosts New Zealand's largest Natural Deep water sea port with the ability to expand, with amazing Solar, Wind and Geothermal energy generation potential, and hosts some of the leading edge industries in Engineering, Agriculture, Horticulture, Aquaculture and development in the Country. As someone who has travelled the world, and also grown up here in Northland, I can say "with hand on Heart", as a region we have produced some amazing businesspeople, sportspeople, artists, creatives, and volunteers. More per capita than any other region in New Zealand. Northland is the "Birth place of the Country!" Ultimately the question is why are you not investing in Northland now? https://lnkd.in/gCNhtu73

Northland - a holiday location with a heap of weed added in?? I’ll say absolutely yes to the first, and not my area of expertise to the second, however we are SO MUCH MORE! After shifting to Whangarei 8 years ago without a job, I thought it would mean a massive step back in responsibility and salary. Instead I have had the best two jobs in my career, first with McKay and then Naut. I have also learnt about amazing businesses here that deliver on the biggest projects in NZ, export globally or are helping to solve health or climate challenges. And it’s all done by people quietly getting on and doing it. This quiet determination means many successful and interesting businesses are just not known about. So it was great to have our first Northland Advanced Manufacturing Aotearoa event, attended by Minister of Manufacturing Andrew Bayly as well as a large number of manufacturing businesses. I loved having the opportunity to open the session and encourage us all to celebrate our successes more, so we can procure from, learn from and generally support each other. Thanks heaps to the awesome people that helped organise this event Catherine Lye Lyndsay Jobin Jane Finlayson Jason Reeves #electricboats #poweredbynaut #loveithere #loveourbrand

Last week, we joined with Z Energy NZ to announce work will begin on a new jet fuel storage contract at Marsden Point. The new contract is a demonstration of our commitment to reinforcing Auckland’s critical jet fuel supply chain. Channel’s Marsden Point site is the direct supply route to Auckland International Airport and we are proud to support Z by providing the critical link in the supply chain that keeps New Zealand connected to its global markets.

Right let’s put the foot down and get this damn thing moving… because the information we’ve been given is that we still don’t have an actual route and land still needs to be purchased

Yesterday's announcement by Transport Minister Simeon Brown of plans to accelerate the Northland Expressway as a three-phase public private partnership, is very welcome news to the road transport industry.   This approach is 100% aligned with what National Road Carriers Association (Inc) been calling for from successive Governments. A pipeline of work that has the scale to attract infrastructure companies to commit to investing in both the equipment and people to deliver the quality transport network is needed to grow New Zealand’s economy. Combining the projects into a single corridor means less time and money spent on procurement, design and supporting project management which we support. #Brynderwyns #roading #investment #planning   Justin Tighe-Umbers James Smith Adam Norman Pamela Bonney Shelley Newey Don Wilson TransportTalk.co.nz New Zealand Trucking Media NZ Truck & Driver Magazine

Media Release from Mayoral Forum 12-7-24 Northland Mayors and Chair renew support for key economic developments The Northland Mayoral Forum, which includes the three Northland Mayors and the Northland Regional Council Chair, has renewed their commitment to the major infrastructure projects listed in their Northland Forward Together shared strategic collaboration document. Whangārei Mayor and Chair of the Northland Mayoral Forum, Vince Cocurullo, says the Northland region is in desperate need of economic investment.    “The Northland Mayoral Forum is united in our determination to see robust, sustainable economic growth here in Northland. We need to plan for strategic growth that balances development, environmental protection, cultural values and land use, so our communities can have a better quality of life both economically and environmentally. The Forum’s renewal of commitment to economic growth comes after consent for a Northport expansion, which could have created 1500 jobs and boosted Northland’s GDP by an estimated $160 million, was declined based on concerns around the scale and extent of the proposed reclamation.  Mayor Cocurullo says that Northland’s access to markets remains a challenge, whether it is by road, rail, air or sea.    “There is an opportunity for the government to improve road and rail infrastructure right now, so the region is better linked to its customers to support economic growth. We still have a vision for growing Northport, such as dry dock development and diversifying cargo for Northland/Auckland, and a Marsden Point development and Marsden Point refinery re-purpose which could include development of sustainable energy sources.  “High on our list of regional priorities is the need for strengthened connectivity in transport, power and communications. Our communities need a four-lane Northland expressway, more reliable power and internet connections, more affordable housing and – crucially – more employment opportunities.  “With robust partnerships and communications, we are hoping that any future concerns around economic development and investment will be alleviated, and we can progress with the essential development Northland so desperately needs.”

14 Million dollars… this is what it cost northlands every day the Brynderwyns route was closed.

Our co-chair, Andrew McLeod spoke with the Newshub team this week on the welcome re-opening of the Brynderwyns. Andrew reminded viewers that the Brynderwyns route is not a permanent solution and that we need a 4 lane expressway from Warkworth to Whangārei to ensure an efficient and resilient connection to Auckland. Northland is very much open for business and we hope to see lots more visitors this Matariki weekend. #NorthlandExpressway cc: Rosie Mercer, Lindsay Faithfull, Rob Buchanan, Rob Kirwan, Northpower, Marsden Maritime Holdings Ltd, Culham Engineering Company Ltd, Channel Infrastructure NZ, McKay, Mark Trigg, Murray Jagger, Vince Cocurullo, Ripeka Evans, Harry Burkhardt

I build and protect reputations. By fostering two-way communication. And telling great stories really well.

This will be of interest to keen watchers of #Northland #infrastructure rehabilitation: The government policy statement (GPS) on land transport has been published today: https://lnkd.in/ggcrrURb. In the plan, the Government has confirmed a spend of $22 billion (approx. $7b a year for the next three years). Of particular interest to Northlanders: * The GPS "includes investment to reverse recent speed-limit reductions, enabling people to get to where they need to go quickly and safely. This includes making it easier for the NZTA to increase speed limits to 110 km/h on roads that are engineered to that safety standard." * Investment in Roads of National Significance includes specific reference to the following sections between Whangārei and Auckland: - alternative to Brynderwyns - Whangārei to Port Marsden (presumably the junction between SH1 and ‘Port Marsden Highway’) - Warkworth to Wellsford * The Government aims to adopt a more forensic approach to supporting rail. “This Government’s focus will be to invest in maintaining the network between the busiest and most productive parts of the existing rail network – between Auckland, Hamilton, and Tauranga.” * The GPS makes only this reference to the proposed Marsden Point Rail Spur: “The Crown is committed to funding... the Marsden Rail Spur investigation” (page 35). * The draft GPS published in March for consultation contained no references to coastal shipping. In the final GPS published today, the activity has been reinstated through a dedicated coastal shipping resilience fund of $30 million over three years. The money for this is to be diverted from Crown rail funding.

Brynderwyn Hills update: We'll be reopening State Highway 1 over the Brynderwyn Hills north of Auckland from 11:59pm on Wednesday 26 June. Roadworkers are now in the process of finishing the last of the work planned under this full closure. During the closure we've created a shoulder space, stabilised the hillside, and moved an initial 180,000 cubic metres of soil, followed by a further 60,000 following the slips in late April. It's been a big job to create a shoulder space on the narrow and windy road – the roadworkers have done an exceptional job. Thanks to Northland communities for their support during the closure. We know the closure has been disruptive. We've really appreciated people's patience, especially while we've had to work to clear additional slips. Thank you also to the roadworkers for the massive effort they've put in and for their diligent work. More than 900 people who have been involved with the project, working day and night in all kinds of conditions to keep things on track so the road could reopen as quickly as possible. Our work to stabilise both the upslopes (above the road) and downslopes (the underside of the road) wouldn't've been possible without a full closure. The huge amount of earth cut away, the levels (benches) made in the hillside, and the piles and retaining walls we've installed will help the road withstand the next severe weather event. The shoulder space we've created means that in future roadworkers can work on repairing the road without lengthy closures. It all adds up to a more reliable SH1 for Northland, vital for communities and other groups such as freight and tourism. Visit our website to find out more about the works and to sign up for our Brynderwyn Hills newsletter: https://lnkd.in/gN75zQEz
