‘Reasons for optimism - How we can shift capital flows and accelerate change.’ In partnership with INFINZ, CSF was pleased to welcome international experts Sean Kidney, Co-founder and CEO, Climate Bonds Initiative, Mushtaq Kapasi, Managing Director, Chief Representative Asia Pacific - ICMA - International Capital Market Association and Kristy Graham, Chief Executive Australian Sustainable Finance Institute to share their insights about global trends and innovation in sustainable finance and reasons for optimism. Key takeaways from the discussion: - Direction of travel = Country-level transition plans, accompanied by investment plans. - Traditional success metric has been the size of the green bond market - but investors and governments are now looking more at the overall impact of these instruments and their investments. - For taxonomies and disclosure standards - usability is key and clarity of purpose is helpful for designing usable tools. Last week, we wrapped up three highly insightful S&P Credit Spotlight sessions in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, where experts shared their perspectives on New Zealand's economic outlook. Here are the key takeaways: • Although New Zealand has exited recession, the worst is likely not over, with unemployment expected to rise through mid-2025 and consumer confidence remaining low. • Bank credit losses should stabilise by 2025, similar to levels seen during 2013-16. • External imbalances remain a risk, especially with the Chinese market still subdued for our food exports. • The NZ banking sector is one of the most profitable in the world, thanks in part to shared services with Australian parent companies, which help lower costs and support profitability. However, returns on equity are in line with Singapore and Sweden, and below Canada. A big thank you to our speakers, Peter Sikora, Martin Foo, Lisa Barrett, Parvathy Iyer, and Craig Parker, for their expert insights. And thank you to all our attendees - we look forward to seeing you again soon at one of our next events! https://lnkd.in/gf4n-eDH Jim McElwain Will Goodwin Sarah Raudkivi Minhinnick Stephan Deschamps Kirk Hope Carolyn Ng Mahina Puketapu Stephen Ridgewell Jane Standage John Vanderbom Leah Scales Tracey Walker Andrew Woodward Bernice Archer Iona Gibbs Faith Taylor Kirsty King Penne Clayton MStJ JP
