Tim Groser says prepare for the unexpected with a probable Trump 2.0 US election outcome. Tim was NZ ambassador to US during Trump 1.0 & former Trade Minister. -Protectionism, which is value NZ does not share with the United States, is bipartisan in US. However, NZ does have powerful friends who share our free trade bona fides though (EU, FTAs,TPP, agreements) .. may insulate us. But could be sectors caught in tariff crossfire ex: steel, alum in past. -The lame duck period between election and inauguration could be especially uncertain with geopolitical fires burning: Ukraine/NATO may see biggest deltas in short term - Do not underestimate Trump - Americans not happy with direction, mood is for change, hard for Harris to shake incumbent laurels - six swing states hold key to election (third of electoral college vote), Trump in past under estimated in polling (at present neck and neck within margin of error) Come to Diplosphere event tomorrow (Thurs 31) to hear Tim express further with other distinguished guests. https://lnkd.in/gxr6WWxz Maty Nikkhou-O'Brien John Robson Samar Alrayyes Heath Milligan Chris Borton (MInstD) Judith Dixon Keith Archibald Hunter Nottage Hugh Gollan luc bouillier Gil Meron (Meirovich)
