The Government created 'Protecting Our Crowded Places from Attack Strategy' to help owners and operators.
About us
New Zealand’s Crowded Places Strategy requires both government and non-government agencies and organisations to protect crowded places from attack. This strategy rests on four key elements: - Building stronger private and public partnerships - Better sharing of information and guidance - Implementing effective protective security and - Improving response and increasing resilience The Crowded Places Security Advisory Group (CPSAG) comprises many of the leading contributors to best practice in the provision of security services in New Zealand. Our aim is to provide consistent and consolidated advice to all those concerned as well as actively supporting the Crowded Places Business Advisory Group (CPBAG) and the Crowded Places Community Advisory Group(CPCAG). Additionally, to providing expertise in security related matters, we focus on identifying issues with the security sector that can support the NZ Crowded Places Strategy; advise on relevant standards, guidelines, and best practice to be used by organisations operating in the Crowded Places environment; advise on criteria for assessing competence, training needs and education of security professionals working in this field and importantly, working together to Improve relationships.

The Australian government has raised the country’s terrorism threat level from “possible” to “probable” as security officials warn of an increased risk of violence “across all ideological spectrums”. There is no indication, yet that NZ will follow however it is a timely reminder for us all to maintain good security hygiene. · Encourage your team to be aware, be vigilant · Understand what is normal for your environment · Regularly check for changes from normal · Challenge and investigate that which is out of the ordinary Most importantly train and empower your team to See something - Say Something - Do Something, ensure they know how to report concerns and what to do in the event of an emergency. Remember: Call 111 when you need immediate emergency response, or the offender is still present. Call 105 or visit 105.govt.nz to report things that have happened and do not require immediate police response.

A new podcast series titled ‘Unsettling Extremism’ has been launched by He Whenua Taurikura, Aotearoa’s National Centre of Research Excellence for Preventing and Countering Violent Extremism. ‘Unsettling Extremism’ is a series of critical conversations with experts talking about #extremism, #hate, mis and disinformation, #conspiracy theories and social connectedness through a uniquely Aotearoa lens. Each episode features experts in their field sharing knowledge and insights as they talk with host Dr Avery Smith. In the first podcast, ‘Spreading Facts’, Avery talks with Dr Mona Krewel about her research into #misinformation and #disinformation. They discuss the difference between misinformation, disinformation and ‘half truths’ and look at disinformation in the context of New Zealand’s 2020 and 2023 #election campaigns. Yesterday we remembered the 51 souls whose lives were tragically cut short in Christchurch five years ago. Their families, and the survivors and their families bear an unimaginable grief. Our memory of those who were lost serves to remind us of our responsibility to embrace our collective diversity and to reject ideologies of hate. Today also causes us to reflect on all that has been done since to tackle #hate, enshrine #diveristy, counter #extremism, and to #protect our communities. Although much has been done, there is more to do, and on that note I commend to you this article by David Fisher in today's New Zealand Herald that features the Crowded Places - Security Advisory Group's call for more proactive government action to provide guidance to New Zealanders on threat preparedness and what to do in the case that the unthinkable were to happen. https://lnkd.in/gystMU3h
