Your Life. Your Way. DISABILITY SUPPORT SERVICES TAILORED TO YOU

About us

We’ve been around for a while, having started out as Te Awamutu Residential Trust back in 1989. We were founded as an intellectual disability support service for 10 people with intellectual disability who were leaving Tokanui Hospital. Initially this support was provided in residential homes in Te Mawhai and Te Awamutu. Over the years we’ve grown in leaps and bounds – having started out with a staff of seven, we now have almost 200. Similarly, the number of people we support has increased from the original 10 to over 130. We have also expanded our services to include support for physical, cognitive and sensory disabilities, as well as for traumatic brain injuries.

We love this story about Corban from our Community Partner, ConneXu! Corban was awarded the Riding for the Disabled Volunteer of the Year award, a testament to his dedication and passion. We admire ConneXu for their "lightest touch" approach to providing services, which empowers individuals like Corban to live their best life as he chooses, following the principles of Enabling Good Lives where he has control and choice, all while knowing that support is there when needed. Tino Pai ConneXu! Thanks for your great example of supporting decision makers.”   Story link -https://lnkd.in/gJ2N-VFG #Volition #SupportedDecisionMaking #DisabilitySupport

ConneXu is super proud of four partners who celebrated their amazing academic achievements at a special graduation ceremony held in Hamilton last week. Darcy Jones, Kaa Dekker, Jack Forsyth and Bevan Taylor were presented with their Certificate of Achievement in the Introduction to Yard Work in the Heights Access Industry, presented by workplace health and safety training provider Vertical Horizonz. The four young men have been working in the Heights Access Industry for around three years, and working towards the ‘made for purpose’ qualification developed in partnership between Vertical Horizonz and industry employers. You can read more about Darcy, Jack, Kaa and Bevan's achievements here https://lnkd.in/gm6kmJAC Many thanks to the team Industrial Site Services Co Ltd for your support, mentoring and belief in these incredible young men!

Really proud of two former job-seekers Sven and Jack. No denying the job finding has been tough but both are keen to be involved and give in whatever way they can. Now respectfully referred to as a couple of spider men, Sven and Jack are giving their time monthly to remove the cobwebs from the inpatient unit of Hospice Waikato. Training day was last Saturday and what a fantastic job they did. While the rest of the world was battling a tech crisis with the World Wide Web, these two spider men absolutely dealt to the IPU wide web 👏

We have another community partner!! ConneXu has a wonderful kaupapa of individualised support plans for disabled people. Once launched, Volition will be a wonderful addition to the resources that they offer. Fern Ryan, ConneXu Chief Executive, said "I heard Erika present at Delivering Disability Services Conference in 2023 on Volition and knew immediately it was a game changer for disabled people. We are thrilled to partner with an organisation which will enable people to be able to communicate their preferences, needs, wants and aspirations through a portal in an app they will own. We believe the Volition app will be a tool which will contribute to many disabled people having more choice and control. Such an exciting journey for ConneXu to be able to contribute to and be on." Thanks Fern! We are excited for this journey too. Fern Ryan Erika Butters #Disabilitysupport #supporteddecisionmaking #Volition
