Still buzzing from 3 days at B Corp Assembly 2024. I initially went over because I was asked to speak twice. On day 1 about the role of business in social change (more on that in another post) and day 2 alongside my sisters Julia Matthews Eileen Bowden & EllaRose Hammond on why Māori dont need Bcorp (also more on that later because it deserves a page of posts on its own! I will be honest - Certifying AWWA Period care as a BCorp 2 years ago was a way for us to show the world what was important to us as a company and hopefully at the same time show our customers that we were legit or trying our hardest to be! We were doing it all already because the BCorp values were already well aligned with our already practicing Māori values - 🌎Kaitiakitanga - We want to have a net positive impact on Papaptūānuku and we think we are doing that by: - Making a reusable period product - ensuring that that reusable product is made ethically and with either organic or recycled fibres - ensuring that we are transparent about every step of the supply chain - because we are proud that every step - growing of the cotton, dyeing, weaving, manufacturing - are all made by people that care about the same things we do - constantly working to reduce our carbon emissions and; - acknowledging that our business operations do emit carbon and offsetting that to ensure we are climate positive for business operations. 💆🏾♀️Manakitanga - You would be forgiven for thinking we are in the business of making period undies. Actually, we are in the business of reindigenising periods for people all over the world. If you are not indigenous, don’t let that word scare you - it means reconnecting to your self during your period. We live in an incredibly disconnected world and we are passionate about practicing caring for ourselves and our wāhine during their periods. For AWWA this looks like us educating anyone we can on the beautiful ceremonies and practices of our Tupuna and by donating 2% of our revenue to help eradicate period poverty in Aotearoa. 👭🏾👫🏻Kotahitanga - we believe in collaboration because our Tupuna did not act individually - they knew that success came with working together. The past 3 days gave me another reason to love BCorp that I did not know about - he tangata! 3 days spent with 300 of my people - 300 founders with the same goal as AWWA - the same goal as our Tupuna - to create a better planet and life for our babies. So tonight I sit here grateful to have connected with soo many new beautiful people that have reminded me that there are soo many good people and good businesses out there. Huge mihi to B Lab Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand Angie Farrugia Andrew Davies Clay Brown Kira D. Mindy Leow #businessforgood

Many of the businesses that work with us are already generous, helping charities and initiatives through donations, buy-one-gift-one models and ad hoc giving. AWWA Period care is a beautiful example of this. Since the beginning, a core part of their business has been to create a positive impact - both through sustainability and working to end period poverty. And they have. Every year donating 2% of their revenue in product to charities and schools every financial year. Our role is simply to amplify that good, making it even easier to be generous by giving customers another way to be part of that mission. It's a role we're proud to play, resulting in over $1000 worth of customer pay-it-forwards (donations) in the first month. That's a lot of period care products to be given to those in need, and another step in achieving their mission. Read the full story about AWWA's generosity and impact here:
