🔊 An exciting update from Air New Zealand this morning with the announcement of our first next generation aircraft. We're delighted to support what is initially a cargo only service, in partnership with NZ Post.
Mission Next Gen Milestone ✈️🎉 We’re proud to announce the purchase of our first next generation aircraft in our Mission Next Gen Aircraft Programme, the ALIA CTOL aircraft by BETA. This battery operated all-electric aircraft is expected to join the Air New Zealand fleet and begin commercial flying in 2026. This aircraft will initially operate as a cargo only service in partnership NZ Post. While this aircraft will add to, not replace our existing fleet, it is a catalyst for that change. By flying the ALIA, we hope to advance our knowledge and the transformation needed in the aviation system in Aotearoa for us to fly larger, fleet replacing, next generation aircraft from 2030. “This is a small but important step in a much larger journey for Air New Zealand. There is a lot of work ahead of us, but we are incredibly committed, and this purchase marks a new chapter for the airline.” - Chief Executive Officer, Greg Foran

Our cargo handling operations are committed to putting health and safety first, both for our team and our customers. 🚘 Recently we invited AIAL to lead a refresher session with our teams covering the rules and regulations for driving airside, and introducing the new AIRDAT system for airside permits. 🚘 The course was tailored for our drivers with ADP’s (Airside Driver Permits) and our team leaders.

We’re committed to supporting Aotearoa’s economy and regional New Zealand by connecting local businesses with the world and New Zealanders with global markets 🍒 🥝 🥩 That’s why, we’ve recently engaged in a partnership that enables all our customers access to a wide-body service between our North and South Islands. This will enable time sensitive cargo and widebody freight, to connect seamlessly into and out of Christchurch. The service is currently operated by a B737-800 freighter aircraft between Auckland - Christchurch - Auckland, 3 days per week.
