Throughout October, our Wāhine Employee Action Group (EAG) have been championing Breast Cancer Awareness Month.   Wāhine EAG lead Krystyna Tia Knight says, "In New Zealand, about 3,400 women are diagnosed with breast cancer every year. We wanted to support Breast Cancer Foundation NZ's vision of zero deaths from breast cancer by encouraging women to check their breasts regularly, and sharing educational resources on risk factors, mammograms and information on how to support those undergoing treatment." As well as sharing resources and raising awareness, our people donned their best pink shirts for Wear Pink Wednesday, we encouraged donations to Breast Cancer Foundation NZ, and Breast Cancer Foundation Nurse, Debra, visited our Auckland office to answer questions and share more information with our people. 

We are happy to share that our new Drive Group Australia Motor Vehicle Collision Repair facility is now open and operating in East Tamaki. The facility will provide a much-needed capacity boost to help manage the increased demand on vehicle repairers, both in the volume of bookings and the complexity of repairs needed given the advances in vehicle technologies. Richie, Margaret, Teriann and Isabelle in our Home Claims team recently spent their annual volunteering day at the new Auckland City Mission - Te Tāpui Atawhai HomeGround facility, taking part in the breakfast service where they helped serve food to more than 150 people in need.   "We started our morning with a karakia, introduction and task allocation, before the breakfast service began at 8am and we were continuously serving food until 11am. In our daily roles, we help get things sorted for our customers when they need us the most, so it was rewarding to give back and connect with our community in a different way", says Richie.   "It’s a small thing, but we hope that it helped make a difference in people’s lives. It was such a privilege to have the opportunity to help out alongside the amazing team at Auckland City Mission."

We’re pleased to share our first Sustainability Report and Climate Statements. These reports aim to give our communities timely and relevant information about the progress we are making on our sustainability journey. Our Sustainability Report includes a summary of the actions AA Insurance is taking to support a sustainable and resilient future. Our Climate Statements outline the climate related risks and opportunities facing our business and the actions underway to respond to these. We are delighted to be finalists for the ANZIIF 12th New Zealand Insurance Industry Awards for Claims Team of the Year and General Insurance Company of the Year! The awards celebrate outstanding achievements across the insurance industry. Being finalists is great recognition for our teams and reflects their incredible commitment to our customers. We’re honoured to have placed fourth in the 2024 Kantar Customer Leadership Index! AA Insurance has ranked in the top 10 for each of the five years that Kantar has run the Index and is the only insurer to feature among this year’s top performers. The Customer Leadership Index is an annual survey of 2,500 consumers and ranks 70 brands across 12 sectors. Chief Operating Office, Simon Hobbs, says “we are proud to once again be in the Top 5 alongside some iconic New Zealand brands. To place in the index means having to perform exceptionally well across Service Delivery, Customer Centricity, Brand Clarity and Offer Excellence. Our teams put customers at the heart of everything they do and seeing this recognition is a huge testament to all their hard work. We also wanted to extend our congratulations to the team over at AA New Zealand for their placement in the Top 10.”

Kia ora e te whānau! We’re celebrating Te Wiki o te Reo Māori (Māori Language Week) by sharing some of our favourite kupu (words) and phrases to use in every day kōrero (conversations). With this year’s theme of ‘Ake ake ake – A Forever Language’, our Arawa Hokule’a Employee Action Group wanted to share the resilience, adaptability and endurance of te reo Māori. Their video shares some awesome insurance- related kupu to use when having a kōrero with our customers, in online meetings and when chatting at lunch time. Kia māhorahora te reo – let’s make it seen, let’s make it heard!

AA Insurance is pleased to announce the appointment of Vanessa Leishman to the role of Chief Risk Officer. Vanessa is an experienced enterprise leader and joins AA Insurance direct from ASB. She has over 20+ years of experience in risk management leadership with expertise in a range of sectors, including Financial Services, Media and Telecommunications. Vanessa Leishman says, “I am thrilled to be joining the AA Insurance team. I’m a firm believer in the importance of financial prosperity to the success of all New Zealanders and protecting what matters most with insurance is a key component of this.” We look forward to welcoming Vanessa to the team!
