I was shamed for my workout outfit — at an all-women’s gym

An ugly encounter at her gym left one woman feeling bent out of shape.

TikTok user Kerry Rose Schwartz took to the platform to share that she’s struggled to feel comfortable in gyms her entire life. She finally found an all-women’s fitness center and was shattered to her core after the gym reportedly shamed her for wearing body-shaping leggings. The influencer was wearing pants popularized on TikTok for their asset-amplifying fit.

Schwartz explained in her video that she struggles with body dysmorphia and finding a gym she felt “comfortable in” and “enjoyed” changed her life for the better.

She asked her followers for their advice and went on to describe “something really disappointing” that happened to her at the establishment.

”They actually said something to me that made me feel so uncomfortable that I never want to go back there again,” she said.

The influencer and “Series of Unfortunate Men” author shared a photo of her “offensive” look and said the privately owned fitness center’s owner approached her for a ”quick chat.”

”I could sense that something was wrong because the conversation got uncomfortable really quickly,” Schwartz continued, adding that the manager asked to have a talk about the gym’s “dress code.”

Schwartz was very confused by the remark and said she was simply wearing sneakers, leggings and a sports bra — her daily workout uniform.

”I don’t think there is anything wrong with this. Why am I being shamed? Especially for a women’s gym,” Schwartz lamented. TikTok/Comfy with Kerry

“They said, ‘I’m really sorry we have to have this conversation but apparently you’re making a few women feel uncomfortable with the leggings that you’re wearing,'” she recalled of the conversation with the owner.

The social media personality was initially “confused,” “shocked” and felt “embarrassment” after the conversation. “I almost felt shame even though I shouldn’t,” she sighed, adding the gym was meant to be a “safe space” with “no judgment.”

“I wasn’t wearing anything inappropriate,” she lamented.

The manager told Schwartz that fellow gym-goers described the leggings as ”distracting” and ”offensive.”

She said she could understand if the management was calling her out for “wearing a thong,” but said she couldn’t understand why the leggings weren’t suitable.

”I don’t think there is anything wrong with this. Why am I being shamed? Especially for a women’s gym,” she added.

Her viewers stood up for her in the comments, with one saying: “Those women are jealous and no those pants do not offend me. I think u look great.”

Another person chimed in: “There is absolutely nothing wrong with what you are wearing. The issues are with the other ladies’ insecurities.”

“Find a new gym that doesn’t have moral police. You look amazing,” one wrote. “Gym owner here. Nothing wrong with what you’re wearing. Only thing that’s wrong is their insecurities.”
