I made the ‘best’ Halloween costume, but some don’t get the optical illusion

If you’re scrambling to find a last-minute Halloween costume, one TikToker may have the solution — if you can figure out the bizarre optical illusion.

An amateur comedian claims to have devised “the best costume ever,” a look that’s garnered more than 300,000 likes — and some boos.

In a viral TikTok video, @Lukaaluuke straps himself to a dummy to make it look like he’s a zombie being carried by someone wearing a gas mask and a hazmat suit.

“You’re saying this is the best costume ever?” the woman filming the video says with skepticism as she watches him slowly assemble the look. “OK. I don’t know.”

The get-up is a trick of the eye, since it looks like the dummy the man is strapped to is walking while carrying his own limp body. He accomplishes the look by strapping on fake legs and a fake torso.

The Internet is divided about whether or not this is clever. Some commenters shared the TikToker’s enthusiasm, while others expressed confusion.

“The ‘trust the process’ costume,” one commenter wrote on the video, referring to the long step-by-step set-up.

“I don’t get it,” another viewer complained. “Why is a guy in a hazmat suit carrying around a normal looking guy?”

But many viewers praised the optical illusion nature of the spooky Halloween look.

“This is so trippy because I literally watched you assemble it but the illusion is so good!!!!” one impressed observer commented.

“It looks really heavy,” the woman behind the camera remarks, while the TikToker explains it weighs 15 to 20 pounds.

“My brain says this isn’t a costume it’s two people,” another mind-blown fan wrote.

But, as with anything that claims to be the best, plenty of skeptics rolled their eyes.

“This is like the 96,284th best costume,” one person wrote.

His audience of one was at least convinced. At the end of the video, the unseen woman filming proclaims, “You’re right. This is the best costume.”

Whether or not viewers agree that this zombie costume is the “best ever,” during a year when Jeffrey Dahmer costumes are on the rise, thanks to the popularity of the hit Netflix show about the serial killer, at least it’s not based on reality.
