Pro-development website New York YIMBY might have left readers baffled last week with a post headlined, “New Renderings Appear for Supertall 5 World Trade Center.”
Although the item did say that the Port Authority, which owns the land on Liberty Street, has “no building plans” there, it confusingly stated that the image of a 70-story structure “could indicate yet another supertall is planned for the area.”
But the PA might have added to the confusion.
A rep explained to The Post that the photo shown was “generic” and part of a fence wrap “installed as part of our initiative to improve the aesthetics around the WTC campus … there are no current plans to sell or develop the site.”
The wrap is one of several steps the PA took to beautify the area to coincide with last week’s opening of Larry Silverstein’s 3 World Trade Center. Artist murals now surround the site of unbuilt 2 World Trade, and Liberty Street between Church and Greenwich streets has been repaved.
