What did sustainability professionals in Oslo do yesterday? They attended the yearly summit of Sustainability Hub Norway (S-HUB). So did we and took a temp check to hear what people think of the event and the topic of sustainability in 2024. The room was filled with optimism and a sense of urgency rarely experienced at mainstream events. RADICAL FUTURES. COLLAPSE. TRANSFORMATION. It was great to see the focus on such themes. The willingness to embrace radical futures and transform all value chains and so the entire global economy to meet the urgency and the scale of the climate crisis can not be a fringe, radical sentiment anymore. It has to be core business. Thank you Sustainability Hub Norway (S-HUB) for being such an important catalyst. We went to Stockholm Furniture Fair last week together with Minus to take a temp check and challenge the furniture industry. FRAME covered our exhibition: "How to move towards more circular design thinking was another key question addressed by the exhibitors at the fair, as well as those in the city. Many of the stands were designed with reuse in mind, while products were ticking off all kinds of sustainability boxes. But as a visitor it’s hard to say who’s making significant steps in the right direction, and who’s just saying they are. That’s where platforms like Variable come in. The software company aims to help brands to take control of their product lifecycle emissions and them into low carbon solutions by looking at the complete value chain." 🚨 We are building a zero carbon economy, but we are not doing it fast enough. ☄ Miljøstiftelsen ZERO is a trailblazer in pushing policymakers, business leaders and the public to embrace the necessary transformation and capture the newly emerging opportunities. ⛓ Value chain decarbonization was a core topic at this year's ZERO Conference, with special focus on cars (Hele bilen til null.) Zero carbon products have to be zero carbon across their entire value chain and their entire life cycle. ✨ This resonated deeply with us given that Variable's entire founding hypothesis is that focusing on zero carbon products are the key for decarbonization. 🌡 So we took a temp check at the conference and interviewed Norway's newly appointed climate & environment minister Andreas Bjelland Eriksen, the CEO of Miljøstiftelsen ZERO, Sigrun Aasland, green politician Une Bastholm, sustainability leader Ida Pernille Hatlebrekke and zero carbon transport expert Ingvild Kilen Rørholt. 🔭 Data platforms like Variable won't solve this challenge alone. Science-based industrial policies and standard setting plays a key role in creating incentives, demanding the required transparency and fostering collaboration. We applaud Miljøstiftelsen ZERO's decades long leadership, vision and hands on execution. 🚀 The optimism at the event was palpable.
