One of the key trends in the #barcode reader market is the widespread adoption of 2D #imaging technology, enabling more versatile and efficient data capture including 2D barcodes and QR codes. Thanks to new #AI and #machinelearning functionality, AI-powered barcode readers can automatically detect and decode barcodes, even in challenging conditions such as low light or poor print quality. machine learning algorithms can improve the accuracy of barcode reading and enable advanced features, such as image recognition and #objecttracking.   These new features demand improved autofocus imaging and constant field of view functionality. Next generation barcode readers need tunable optics from poLight! Want to learn more? Jon Edwards will attend VISION ’24, the leading trade fair for machine vision, Oct. 8-10 in Stuttgart, Germany. To schedule a meeting, contact [email protected].   #imaging #optics #TLens®

Many experts predict that #multimodal or #generativeAI is the next technological frontier, delivering the ability to integrate and interpret diverse data sets from text, images, video, audio and code. In fact, Forrester lists generative AI as a top 10 emerging technologies for 2024. However, these complexities can lead to AI ‘hallucinations,’ or the misinterpretation or misidentifying of image elements if there are disparities in the image capture itself. When considering generative AI in an #AR or #MR application, the need for accurate #image capture becomes even more critical to avoid these hallucinations. From industrial to healthcare to consumer applications, replicating what the human eye ‘sees’ in AR is a must-have requirement. Correctly capturing the image inputs in the user’s environment to feed the AI demands autofocus capabilities with near-instant response times. There are other critical design issues with wearable AR/MR devices used for long-term AI applications in the workplace. A small form factor for the optical lens and camera module is required to ensure user comfort.  Ultra-low power consumption and low heat dissipation are also mandatory for device designers.  All told, camera performance, camera placement and speed of reaction time demand #tunableoptics for AI in AR/MR to meet its true potential. Fortunately, poLight’s #TLens® autofocus tunable optics technology effectively addresses these critical user-focused design issues. Our patented tunable optics technology replicates the human eye, making instant, accurate autofocus across a wide focus distance and constant field of view options possible, replicating what the user actually sees. The proprietary piezo #MEMS-based actuator can tune the optics within 1 millisecond and faster and consumes <1mW of power. Generative or multimodal AI applications in AR/MR devices are within reach but they demand the highest quality imaging.
