Developmental dysplasia of the hip (DDH) is a congenital disorder in which the etiology, risk factors and life course are not fully understood. Our multidisciplinary HIPS research group in Norway aims to contribute to a better understanding of the complex mechanisms involved. We are excited to share our latest findings from the large, longitudinal population-based hip cohort, newly published in Pediatrics. Associations between the newborn hip acetabular shape as seen on ultrasound and the adult acetabular shape as seen on x-rays are incompletely understood. We revealed significant associations in females, which might indicate different mechanisms affecting the course of DDH for females and males.
