Publication alert on: "Insights on the Socio-Economic Impacts of Research Misconduct"📃📰📕📖🥳 We are happy to share a new publication from BEYOND BAD APPLES on the above topic authored by Dr Rowena Rodrigues and Daniel Pizzolato. Research misconduct (RM) and questionable research practices (QRPs) have a considerable impact on researchers, the economy and society. Using a socio-economic impact assessment methodology, this article identifies and assesses their impacts. The objective is to help support the measures developed to promote research ethics and research integrity principles through shared responsibility (individual and institutional) and improve education and training. The article presents recommendations for policy and future research as part of a cohesive framework that takes socio-economic impacts into account. This qualitative study advances and updates current knowledge on the impacts of RM, enriching existing research by introducing new insights, especially regarding socio-economic dimensions, affected stakeholders, and the relevance and significance of these impacts. https://lnkd.in/duCJUuru BEYOND BAD APPLES Dr Rowena Rodrigues Daniel Pizzolato Research Ethics, University of Oslo Rosemarie de la Cruz Bernabe Vivian Mbanya Signe Mežinska Keziah Chanyisa Khayadi Dash Eero Kaila Kalle Videnoja Anu Tammeleht Erika Löfström Ian Slesinger Carole Chapin, PhD Alina Coman Susanne van den Hooff Lisa Tambornino Giulia Inguaggiato Natalie Evans Eliza Lasmane Siim Andres Anaïs Rességuier Nathalie Voarino Andero Uusberg Lisa Häberlein Alina Coman Ivars Neiders Tonje Lossius Husum

Congratulations to Rosemarie de la Cruz Bernabe Shereen Cox, PhD and the entire @pandemicethics team. 👏👏🏽🎉 Research Ethics, University of Oslo
Glad to see that the 2024 version of the Declaration of Helsinki is now available has taken in some of the suggestions submitted by the Research Ethics, University of Oslo and by the Pandemic Ethics project. Specifically, our groups' suggestions on post-approval monitoring and post-trial access are now partially reflected in the DoH. That said, more work needs to be done! We are excited to announce that yesterday's BEYOND online policy event was a success!🥳 The discussion focused on the significant impact that questionable research practices (QRPs) and research misconduct (RM) have on society, the economy, and researchers. Promoting research ethics and integrity requires shared accountability at both the individual and institutional levels. Supported by Horizon EU, the BEYOND project uncovered various socio-economic effects of research misconduct, with key findings and recommendations summarized in the first BEYOND policy brief. This policy brief evaluates the consequences of QRPs and RM through a socio-economic impact assessment approach. It forms part of a broader framework that addresses socio-economic implications while offering recommendations for future research and policy initiatives. A heartfelt thanks to everyone who participated and contributed to this milestone event! I'm honored to share that I had the opportunity to present the BEYOND BAD APPLES project at the recently concluded ERA Conference, which took place from September 18-19, 2024, in Brussels Belgium. Organized on behalf of the European Commission, the event centered on the theme: Fostering Greater Integration and Advancing Competitiveness. The conference featured 19 projects focused on various aspects of research and innovation within the European Research Area. Its goal was to showcase outstanding projects representing the innovative landscape of European research. Being part of this exhibition allowed us to highlight the significant impact of our project to a wide range of policymakers and stakeholders from across Europe. At the exhibition's official opening, I was surprised to learn that out of over 7,000 projects across Europe, only 19 were selected for display, and I’m proud to say that BEYOND BAD APPLES, along with XR4Human Project, were among them. This selection underscores the importance of our project and its relevance to the broader European research agenda. Panel discussions at the conference covered critical topics such as scientific freedom and research security, inclusive gender equality, challenges and opportunities in research assessment reform, enhancing science and public trust through citizen engagement, and global perspectives on AI in science. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to the entire BEYOND BAD APPLES team for their incredible support in preparing for this conference, especially Rosemarie de la Cruz Bernabe for her confidence in me and entrusting me with such a significant responsibility, and Eero Kaila for the unwavering support in preparing all necessary materials. Special thanks also go to Doris Schroeder and David Robinson for their tireless work on the Beyond video that was showcased at the conference. Lastly, a big thank you to INSPIRING ERA for selecting Beyond to be presented at this prestigious event.
