Over ons

Established in 1988, TEFAF is widely regarded as the world’s pre-eminent organization for fine art, antiques, and design. TEFAF runs two Fairs internationally - TEFAF Maastricht, which covers 7,000 years of art history, and TEFAF New York, focused on modern and contemporary art & design. TEFAF gives international dealers the platform to present museum-quality works of all eras and genres to a broad base of collectors and connoisseurs. In addition to its annual TEFAF Maastricht fair in March at the MECC (Maastricht Exhibition & Congress Center) in the Netherlands, TEFAF expanded to the United States in October 2016. It presents an additional Fair - TEFAF New York - held in May, in the global art center, New York City. Maastricht: March 9-14, 2024.

“To build a collection of importance, one most importantly needs the passion, fascination, and also the courage to collect as well.”–Thomas Olbricht From Wunderkammer objects to contemporary art, collector Thomas Olbricht reflects on more than five decades of multidisciplinary collecting with TEFAF Stories. What first brought Olbricht to the world of art was his childhood collecting habits, bringing together objects such as toy cars, match boxes, and stamps. Elementary art classes and an art teacher who sparked his dedicated interest in drawing and painting fostered a lifelong commitment to art. “At one point, I started painting after artists such as Nolde and Franz Marc. I may have sold a few of my drawings to family members, but in my late teens I realized that they were not good enough to become an artist myself,” the collector reminisces. “So, if you can’t make art, what do you do? You collect instead.” Discover Olbricht’s captivating story on a life lived with art: https://bit.ly/4dO54B9 Pictured here, Thomas Olbricht with his dog Banksy in front of “The Homeless Butler” (2009) by George Condo from the Olbricht Collection. In the world Mexico City-born artist Bosco Sodi has created, raw materials, such as found branches, volcanic rocks, and clay meet precious metals and an explosion of color. The artist likens his process to “controlled chaos,” preferring to use local materials whenever possible. Pigments collected from around the globe are mixed with water and sawdust sourced from the country where Sodi is working. “If you see the paintings I did in Berlin or Barcelona or Greece, they are all totally different from one another, even if using the same or similar pigments,” says the artist. The latest feature from TEFAF Stories immerses you in the vivid world of Bosco Sodi: https://bit.ly/3RJBHqJ Photo by Vincent Tullo.
