Our SkyHive keeps up to 5 drones airborne 24/7. And together with our new partner MEJOR Technologies we aim to help fire departments to detect wildfires and visualize their size and spread, creating situational awareness to protect their firefigthers. MEJOR's algorithms also help to predict the spread of fires, helping to save lives through early warning. To aid in this our ReFly's are now equipped with the latest Teledyne FLIR Boson 640+ thermal camera, alongside the Sony 61MP LX-LR1. A few months ago we kicked off the #3DFarming project together with our partner Croptic to automate disease detection in potato plants. By integrating the Sony ILX LR-1 full frame camera, we are now able to take incredibly precise photo's of the plants. And today we also performed our first remote flight from our office, flying a #ReFly over 30km away via 4G with a back-up link. Over the summer, we will be starting automated flights from our SkyHive dronehub at VDBorne Campus, and taking the first steps towards an early warning disease detection system for farmers! Making tech like ours fly takes much careful engineering and some less careful rapid unscheduled dissasemblies. Being vertically integrated, we design and manufacture our products from the ground up: from electronics to frame! We will be highlighting this in a new series called; 'Did you know?' This week: did you know we 3D print much of the frame of our #ReFly #UAS? 3D printing helps to localize manufacturing, and with many print farms helping us along, we have a reliable supply of parts. And our own little print farm pitches in when needed! We use a combination of different types of printing techniques (FDM, SLS, MJF). Some parts require stiffness, others high temperature resistance. Using prints mean our designs are modular and parts are easy to replace. In case of a crash, the prints serve as crumple zones and protect all internals in between the carbon fibre sandwich. Samen met Croptic, die gespecialiseerd is in het detecteren van aardappelziektes en onkruid zetten we dit groeiseizoen 3 SkyHive systemen neer in België. Dank aan CrossRoads Vlaanderen-Nederland voor het vertrouwen en deze subsidie van €250.000 euro. Wij gaan er voor om gezamelijk de boer verder te helpen in de strijd tegen aardappelziektes!
