Soumya Kanti Kar (Sam) is participating the 75th EAAP* Annual Meeting 1/5 September 2024 - Florence, Italy. Exciting congress program and many more- take a look https://eaap2024.org/ He presented a poster with new - not yet published - data from work he did during his PhD. The FeedOmics approach revealed SDPP’s functional effects. Achieving effects like pharmaceutical doses of ZnO SDPP positively influences gut health by indicated by the Sarcina abundance, up regulating tight junction receptors, and modulating immune responses positioning it as a promising alternative to antibiotics and ZnO. #FeedOmics #gut_health #plasma_powder #Proglobulin® #piglets #Zink #ZnO #antibiotics

Reintroduction of PAP's: a journey together with our customers!
Last week - Thursday the 13th of June 2024 - I spoke at the Technical Congress from the Annual General Meeting from EFPRA. I took the audience with me on the journey we made as PAP suppliers since the PAP were re-allowed in the EU in September 2021. The new Regulation is very complex and gives us as a supply chain still a lot of challenges. But I showed in my presentation that the feed industry is very inventive and uses all options provided in the current Regulation. In fact to use our products they can either have a dedicated factory to use single species PAP, or place an additional unit behind the existing factory to add afterwards the PAP (to avoid cross contamination) and last but not least the single species PAP can be delivered directly at a single species farm with blending equipment (with the additional compound feed added at the farm). Three years after the reintroduction of the PAP in feed for pigs and poultry it is clear that this was really a mutual effort of the whole supply chain! To realize what we have now, involved cooperation with the government ( in our case in 3 countries), our suppliers, the feed industry, the farmers, the NGO's and the retail. After my introduction Jeffrey de Rooij from AR (compound feed) showed in his presentation the positive effects on health, welfare and sustainability of the use of pork PAP in diets for laying hens! #feed #PAP #EFPRA #pigs #poultry #sustainable #welfare

It is a pleasure to work together with Ronald Corbee and our PhD Niels Blees! #arthritis #collagen #hydrolysate #dogs #joints
My PhD student and winner of the ESVCN Waltham award has presented his bioavailability study of collagen hydrolysates yesterday at AAVN. This is a nice collaboration between Utrecht University and Darling ingredients. We like to make use of all materials from the rendering industry for more sustainable pet food. I am a proud supervisor!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- A few weeks ago, I was interviewed by John Ekkelboom for the Journal of Veterinary Medicine of the Royal Dutch Veterinary Association (KNMvD). It was incredibly enjoyable to discuss our research on collagen hydrolysate in dogs with John! The combination of lab work and our clinical work, along with the collaboration with Darling Ingredients in the project, has found a great place in the story. Interested in our clinical research? Please take a look at: https://lnkd.in/egh5naS4 (or send me a message) Thanks to John Ekkelboom for the photo and the text (my sometimes wandering story has resulted in a very nice compact outcome!). The research is not a one-person job, but a team effort with Michelle Teunissen, Ronald Corbee, and Marianna Tryfonidou from the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (Utrecht University), and Carine van Vuure and Esther Prevo from Darling Ingredients
