Regenerating marine life with sustainable infrastructure for a thriving, resilient future.
Over ons
Reefy is at the forefront of integrating ecology into sustainable marine infrastructure projects, addressing the rapidly growing demand for coastal and offshore infrastructure. With 40% of the global population living near coastlines, the alarming loss of 85% of global oyster reefs, and degradation of 50% of global coral reefs in the last 30 years, the need for innovative solutions has never been greater. Corporate shareholders, public demand, and stringent regulations are pushing marine developers to rethink how we build in these fragile ecosystems. Reefy helps developers meet these requirements by providing comprehensive assessment and monitoring services before and after project implementation. This ensures that the impact on biodiversity can be quantified and reported with clear data, meeting the increasing demands for sustainability and accountability. Our projects have demonstrated a threefold increase in biodiversity compared to traditional concrete structures and can save up to 60% in costs compared to rubble mound breakwaters, by doing with good for nature at the a competitive cost, we increase significantly enhancing the likelihood of project awarding. As experts in combining engineering needs with nature, Reefy delivers tailored recommendations for each location and specifies the necessary products or components for on-site manufacturing. Our flagship product, the patented "Reefy Living Breakwater," exemplifies our commitment and proves it is possible to combine engineering and ecological principles at large scale volumes and prices. This innovative structure not only protects shorelines from erosion and flooding, but also enhances life underwater and water quality. Join us in building a resilient future for our oceans and coastal communities.

🌊🌱🐟 Reefy at the Maritime Museum Rotterdam! We’re excited to be part of this incredible exhibition, helping to educate the next generation about the future of our oceans. Our Reefblock is featured as an innovative example of how we can protect coastlines while fostering marine life beneath the waves. By offering a hands-on way for kids to learn—planting corals, oysters, and other marine species on the blocks—we’re inspiring future ocean stewards. It’s a fun and interactive way to show that sustainability and coastal protection can go hand in hand! Special thanks to Daphne van Schaijk May Yan van Ham and Maritiem Museum Rotterdam for the fun collaboration and attention to detail! Since this summer we are working hard in the Joint Industry Project SPREE, to further develop the application of Reef Units as scour protection. As part of the project we are looking into the effects that application of these units in scour protection have on the decommissioning approach. If you want to weigh in on the discussion, participating in the survey is much appreciated and helps to bring eco-friendly scour protection one step closer! #Reefy #offshorewind #Biodiversity #Reefrestoration #Sustainablestartup #Oceanimpact #Naturerestoration
🌊 𝗧𝗼 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗿 𝗡𝗼𝘁: 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁’𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗲𝗳𝘀 Our ambitions in offshore wind are rising—great for meeting our electricity needs, but what about marine life? 🌿 Fortunately, the conversation around nature-inclusive design is gaining momentum, helping us find a balance. But we also need to consider: how and when we decommission these projects. One promising approach is the use of 𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗶𝗳𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗳𝘀. These reefs can enhance biodiversity, supporting both vulnerable marine species 🐟 and commercially important ones, creating co-benefits for the blue economy sectors like fishing 🎣 and recreation. But what happens when a wind farm reaches the end of its life? Should these vibrant artificial reefs, now buzzing with marine life, be removed? Or should they remain as lasting ecological assets? We would love to hear the opinion of our network on this topic so we can contribute to the knowledge gathering for the 𝗝𝗼𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗜𝗻𝗱𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁: 𝗦𝗣𝗥𝗘𝗘, where one of our Buccaneers Reefy is actively involved. 📋 Take a moment to fill out this brief survey (11 questions) and help shape the future of this important initiative. 🌍 This week, Reefy had the privilege to present our sustainable climate adaptation approach to a prestigious delegation from the U.S. state of Louisiana at PortXL. Both the Netherlands and Louisiana share similarities in topography, being low-lying delta regions. This means we also face many of the same challenges due to climate change, and we took the opportunity not just to discuss the problems—but also to share the solutions! Our reef-enhancing breakwater has been rigorously tested and proven stable under hurricane-force conditions during two full testing campaigns at Deltares and is ready to be deployed globally to protect coastlines and waterways. We're excited about the potential to share our technology overseas, helping safeguard people and assets while enhancing biodiversity, connectivity, and water quality. 🌊🐠 Big thanks to Mitja Caboni PortXL and Esther van Geloven Consulate General of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Miami for making the connection. We look forward to making an impact with our new friends in Louisiana and we hope to see you all again. 🌊🌱Exciting progress at the Rotterdam Reef! 🐟🦀 Last week, we had the privilege of presenting the incredible results from the Rotterdam Reef demonstration project, which came to life through a strong collaboration between Gemeente Rotterdam , Rijkswaterstaat, Boskalis and Reefy. It was inspiring to see so many key contributors—who played pivotal roles at various stages of the project—come together in one room. In this demonstration project, we designed, produced, installed, and monitored a new and innovative solution for nature-inclusive dams and breakwaters, achieving fantastic results on both engineering capabilities as biodiversity enhancement. We are now ready to apply this solution not only across the Netherlands but also internationally to make a large scale impact on marine and aquatic biodiversity around the world. Stay tuned for the full results! #biodiversity #krw #reefrestoration #natuur #coastalengineering #biodiversiteit #onderwater #climateresilience #PAGW #HWBP #naturebasedsolution
