PIONEER+ and the EAU UroEvidenceHub organise their first Hackathon! During the course of IMI-PIONEER, we learnt that getting together for a multi-day intensely focused event is one of the best ways to accelerate our collaborative work. It allows us to experience the true sense of collaboration, learn from one another, create strong connections and ultimately to work more efficiently. So, we have organised a Hackathon! We are gathering a multi-disciplinary group of clinicians, programmers and statisticians to progress the software development work that had started during IMI-PIONEER and that is now continuing under PIONEER+ within the EAU UroEvidenceHub. The Hackathon is taking place on 9-12 April and we are delighted to be hosted by Bayer’s #LifeHubLyon #Bayer #European Association of Urology
PIONEER - Big Data in Prostate Cancer

Aiming to ensure the optimal care of European men living with prostate cancer by unlocking the potential of Big Data
Over ons
PIONEER is a European Network of Excellence for Big Data in Prostate Cancer, consisting of 32 partners across 9 countries. Our goal is to ensure the optimal care for all European men living with prostate cancer by unlocking the potential of Big Data and Big Data analytics. PIONEER's objective is to standardise and integrate existing ‘big data’ from high-quality multidisciplinary data sources into a single innovative data platform. This will result in a unique and comprehensive data set that consists of the most relevant prostate cancer clinical trials and registries, large epidemiological cohorts, electronic health records, and real-world data from different European and non-European patient populations. PIONEER researchers will then apply different analytic methods to this data to answer the most important prostate cancer questions as prioritised by clinicians, patients, researchers, pharmaceutical industry representatives, and payers. PIONEER is funded through the IMI2 Joint Undertaking and is listed under grant agreement No. 777492. This joint undertaking receives support from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme and EFPIA. Follow us on Twitter @ProstatePionner

PIONEER+ is kicking-off! IMI-PIONEER has formally ended in October 2023. Over the 5.5 years, we have accomplished a lot, but we are only just getting started. PIONEER will continue its activities as PIONEER+, embedded in Foundation EAU UroEvidenceHub. We are excited to announce that PIONEER+ will launch at EAU24. Among else, we plan to: 1. Revisit PIONEER’s achievements and discuss how best to build on them. 2. Discuss our shared vision and how we will achieve it. 3. Review our way of working and move towards kicking-off new exciting research collaborations. 4. Reconnect with dear friends and colleagues. We are looking forward to seeing many of you at EAU24 in Paris and are excited to update you on our next steps. Cannot attend but are interested to learn more about ways of contributing? Get in touch with us via [email protected].

📢 IDEAL4OMOP training programme is starting and recruiting! The IQVIA-DIGICORE Early Career Leadership Programme for OMOP, ‘IDEAL4OMOP’, has been developed by DIGICORE, and supports its vision to enable precision oncology research at scale across Europe. The programme has been designed in light of DIGICORE’s recent success in being awarded a substantial Interregional Innovation Investment (I3) grant by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) to build an international network of hospitals with a cancer research dataset conformed to the standards of the OHDSI OMOP Common Data Model. This multi-year programme will build research leadership skills in OMOP, and give trainees the opportunity to build an international study team, design a research project, and apply for funding. Participants should ideally be earlier in their career (< 45 years old) with a strong interest in digital research in cancer – clinician researchers are welcome to apply, as are data scientists, pathologists, research managers or others interested in becoming a cancer research leader of the future. Interested in joining? Don’t miss out on an introductory seminar on Feb 15 at 17:00 CET, and to register, please contact [email protected].

📢 The PIONEER - Big Data in Prostate Cancer project has officially ended in October 2023, celebrating five years of successes in #BigData analysis, laying the basis to revolutionise prostate cancer research. 🎉👏👍 A team of key opinion leaders, healthcare providers and patients set out to identify prioritised research questions critical to all stakeholders, out of which the top five questions about the diagnosis and management of #ProstateCancer were prioritised. Research questions (RQ) were and are being addressed by 14 active RQ teams through the analysis of #BigData. Three of the RQs made significant progress as part of the three PIONEER Studyathons. PIONEER developed a common vocabulary, defined Core Outcome Sets, systematically reviewed both clinician-reported outcomes and psychometric properties of Patient-Reported Outcome Measures and recommended minimum sets of clinician and patient-reported outcomes for use in routine practice and research settings. Lastly, an Online Search Tool for Diagnostic and Prognostic Factors was developed. 🎉👋🎉 We are excited to inform you that PIONEER will continue as PIONEER+ and be integrated into the EAU´s UroEvidenceHub initiative as the prostate cancer research and support hub. 🤝🎉🎉 It is not the end; our journey is just beginning!
