HOW TOOLS AND AI HAVE CHANGED RECRUITMENT When I started in recruitment some 17 years ago, I was taught how to search candidates in our database and asked to do an email reach-out to max 150 people. It would take 10-30 minutes for the email reach-out to complete and the whole team would suffer database performance issues :) My job was mostly about CALLING. Calling potential candidates, asking for their interest or referrals. Calling receptionists at potential clients, pleading for a transfer to managers in IT. Meeting those managers and feeling sooo happy when they would share their business card with their direct nr. Simple, but effective. Then LinkedIn made its introduction. AWESOME, another source for finding and reaching out to candidates and hiring managers. When I started Magno IT Recruitment I discovered Recruiter Pro, Sales Navigator and above all: an extension that showed mobile nrs, all products meeting privacy laws new and old, yet offering information that I previously had to work so hard to get! It did cause some SURPRISEL 'how did you get my nr? "But it worked! Clients were (still) happy to meet a potential new supplier. Now, 10 years later, on top of these products, we are using tools for automation, data analytics, multi-advertising, social media, remote working and a QMS to manage all these processes. 'Keep up with the times', they say. 'Keep up with automation and AI or fall behind'. And it's true, we couldn't go back to previous work methods and remain successful. However, did it result in more placements of candidates on assignments? You might be surprised that the answer is NO. Our KPIs are similar. - Clients and candidates see a much higher influx of well matching candidates and roles and have increased their requirements. - Clients have their own automation in place, so there is less restriction on the nr of applicants that can be reviewed. - At LEAST 2 interviews before an offer is made (5 interviews are not uncommon). Dit it result in less work for recruiters? NO - Using AI and toolings available is an addition to their most important responsibility: calling candidates to discuss opportunities and their experience. Has the work become easier? Definitely NO:) - Extensive training is needed to use the tools correctly and to keep up with changes. Time & task management skills have become SUPER important. Perhaps it's not only personal use of social media that is stressing out our new generation? Just saying. Don't get me wrong: I have developed an absolute fascination for Data and Automation. It's a journey in which we aspire to one day use all these developments and TRULY bring NEW VALUE to our colleagues , clients and candidates. That is the dream. In the meantime, we are exploring and learning every day and we put our efforts in keeping our colleagues motivated and confident. Very curious to know other people's thoughts on this topic.
