We grow giant kelp forests around the globe to boost the health of the oceans and to store CO2. We harvest only the kelp canopy. From this we make biostimulants, a product that allows farmers to drastically reduce the use of synthetic fertilizers. Biostimulants increase: -plants ability to tolerate climactic stress and -yields. WHAT’S THE PROBLEM? Per year, humanity is using natural capital 1.7 times as fast as Earth can renew it. For our futures sake, this must change. Cost-effective, long term and environmentally sustainable alternatives must be found to restore the planet to equilibrium, or even abundance. Why is Kelp Blue an answer? Giant Kelp one of the fastest growing organism on the planet and is well suited for use in a range of products from high quality pharma/neutraceuticals to fertiliser, animal feed, dietary supplements and textiles. Growing the marketplace for existing kelp products as well as using giant kelp derivatives to displace environmentally damaging alternatives will help restore the planets equilibrium; growing kelp requires no fertilisers, no pesticides, no land and no fresh water. But more importantly, it has the ability to draw down more CO2 than terrestrial forests while boosting marine biodiversity and improving fish stocks. Why KELP BLUE? We are passionate about scaling a profitable nature-based solution that will help reverse climate change. Our model can quickly grow across different markets helping to change the course of multiple industries from being environmentally damaging to being environmentally positive.

New episode 🌿 Kelp Blue is growing giant kelp to restore marine ecosystems while also producing potent biostimulants for farmers. In doing so, they are regenerating both sea and land, while being profitable and creating jobs in local communities. How cool is that?! 🌱 In the Ocean: Growing giant kelp helps restore marine ecosystems and sequester carbon, acting as a powerful tool against climate change. 🌍 On Land: The harvested kelp is transformed into an efficient biostimulant for agriculture. Spraying it on fields promotes root growth and nutrient intake and as a result, farmers can cut back on synthetic fertilisers. A great tool for farmers transitioning to organic/regenerative agriculture! 🤝 In the Community: Kelp Blue is committed to social justice, hiring locally (mainly in Namibia), ensuring fair wages, and maintaining a healthy gender balance. Innovation is at the core of what we do. Last week we hoisted our solar-powered, unmanned, remote-operated kelp harvester vessel into the water. A world's first 🏆🏆 "It was a moment of immense pride. We've been working toward this, and now it's finally real. The next step will be to add the cutting system and the offloading conveyor so it can harvest the kelp remotely. When this is done we will have the worlds first solar powered remote controlled workboat!" Okke Meijer, CTO Kelp Blue Biotech. Our efforts at Kelp Blue, along with 15 other initiatives, have been endorsed by the UN Ocean Decade! 🌎 This recognition shows the significant impact we're having in rewilding the oceans and raising global awareness of the role Giant Kelp plays in this effort 🌊 The Ocean Decade is dedicated to advancing ocean science and knowledge to reverse the decline of our marine ecosystems and unlock new opportunities for sustainable development. It's encouraging to see our work acknowledged by such a significant initiative, underlying we're heading in the right direction. The United Nations General Assembly has entrusted UNESCO's Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission (IOC) with leading the coordination and implementation of this vital Decade. Let's continue the great work forward! The #OceanDecade endorses 16 projects actions to increase ocean resilience and awareness worldwide! 🔹 The Decade Programme Global Ecosystem for Ocean Solutions, led by Ocean Visions will host 10 new Projects to scale up solutions around the ocean-climate nexus. These initiatives focus on the restoration of marine ecosystems and biodiversity, climate remediation, carbon dioxide removal technologies, and digital coastal ecosystems. Based on multidisciplinary collaboration and co-design, these Projects will be implemented in coastal areas, including in Africa and Caribbean Small Island Developing States. 🔹 Under the umbrella of the Ocean Literacy With All Programme, led by UNESCO Ocean, six Projects will accelerate a fundamental shift in the way our ocean is valued, understood, and managed. These initiatives will build an ocean literate society through formal and informal educational and awareness-raising tools, including gameplay and immersive 3D imagery. We welcomed another (shy!) visitor to our kelp forests in Lüderitz, Namibia: the Dark Shyshark (Haploblepharus Pictus) 🦈 These very cute sharks can grow to 60cm long (2 feet), although we have mostly been seeing small juveniles, hanging out on the blades and holdfasts of the kelp. One of them has even taken a liking to Kelpie Anna Reid (see second photo)🥹. The Dark Shyshark has some pretty unique traits. 🌊 When threatened, the Dark Shyshark curls up into a ring with its tail covering its eyes - this behaviour gives it the nickname "Shyshark" 🌊 The Dark Shyshark is found exclusively off the coast of South Africa and surroundings. 🌊 Dark Shysharks are nocturnal hunters, coming out at night to feed on small fish, crustaceans, and mollusks - such as octopus or squid. 🌊 Their maximum lifespan is 25 years. They reach sexual maturity around 15 years old. Females then produce 2 eggs at a time enclosed in a purse-like capsule egg casing. The eggs will hatch after 6-10 months and the juveniles will find shelter in the kelp or rocky bottom. Our many sightings while diving are another great sign of a developing ecosystem, with the kelp providing a great shelter for the juvenile shysharks 💙 Looking forward to our next visitors! #biodiversity #boost #Return #giantkelp #shark #monitoring

Welcome to our Garden of Eden in Lüderitz, Namibia—a sustainable and harmonious garden in the middle of the desert! 🌳 At the heart of our garden, you'll find the innovative research fields where Kelpies are testing StimBlue+, a biostimulant derived from cultivated Macrocystis Pyrifera (giant kelp), on a variety of crops. In this 2-hectare trial plot, we've conducted and are continuing to conduct trials on olive trees, radishes, acacia trees, vineyards, fig trees, aloe vera, citrus grapefruit, potatoes, butternut squash, and more. StimBlue+ offers farmers a higher financial return on investment through proven yield improvements. It mixes greatly with existing irrigation systems, reducing the need for additional farming inputs and synthetic fertilizers. Haven’t tried StimBlue+ yet?
